Job Overview:
The position of Multiskilled Conference Audiovisual Technician at UNESCO is designed to enhance the organization's roster of audiovisual professionals. The selected consultants will be engaged for occasional assignments, providing essential technical support for various events held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. These events may include conferences, meetings, ceremonies, and other gatherings, which can be conducted in person, online, or in a hybrid format. The technicians will be responsible for the technical preparation, operation, and close-out of assigned sessions, ensuring that all audiovisual components function seamlessly. This role requires adaptability to different equipment, room configurations, and event formats, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including audiovisual teams, event coordinators, and external service providers. The overarching goal is to ensure that all technical requirements are met, and that participants receive high-quality audiovisual support throughout the events.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Multiskilled Conference Audiovisual Technician include:
  • Technical Preparation: Reviewing technical specifications and session schedules, liaising with technical coordinators, preparing and testing audiovisual equipment, and ensuring all systems are operational before events.
  • Session Operation: Providing technical operation for in-person, hybrid, and online events, monitoring audio and video quality, adjusting equipment as necessary, and assisting participants with technical issues.
  • Completion of Assignment: Shutting down systems properly, storing equipment, and reporting any incidents or maintenance needs.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with speakers, interpreters, and other technical teams to ensure smooth operation during events.
  • Adherence to Safety and Operational Procedures: Following all safety rules and operational instructions related to the equipment and spaces used during events.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess vocational training or a technical qualification in audiovisual technology, sound, video, electronics, information technology, networking, or a related field. In the absence of formal qualifications, equivalent professional experience demonstrating mastery of the expected competencies may be considered. Additional training or certification in digital audio networking, conference systems, simultaneous interpretation, videoconferencing, or professional audiovisual equipment is advantageous. Candidates should also have practical experience in the technical preparation and operation of events, familiarity with professional audiovisual equipment, and experience in multilingual conferences or institutional environments.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes vocational training or a technical qualification in relevant fields such as audiovisual technology, sound, video, electronics, information technology, or networking. Candidates with equivalent professional experience may also be considered if they can demonstrate the necessary competencies. Specialized training or certification in areas such as digital audio networking or simultaneous interpretation is a plus.

Experience:
Candidates should have practical experience in the technical preparation and operation of conferences, meetings, ceremonies, or similar events. Experience with professional audiovisual equipment for in-person, hybrid, or online events is essential. Familiarity with multiple technical areas, including sound, video, projection, and videoconferencing, is highly desirable. Experience in multilingual settings or with simultaneous interpretation systems is considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French or other languages is considered an asset. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively with diverse participants and stakeholders, ensuring smooth technical operations during events.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is a consultant contract at Level 2 - Middle, with a duration of less than one month. The daily fee for services ranges from EUR 210 to EUR 315, depending on experience and qualifications.
