Job Overview:
The E T Consultant (Associate Data Engineer) position at the World Bank Group is integral to the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit, which aims to support the organization's mission of ending extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity. This role focuses on delivering high-quality geospatial solutions and capabilities that enhance operational decision-making across the institution. The Associate Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines that manage both geospatial and non-geospatial data. This position requires a strong background in data engineering, geospatial data management, and ETL/ELT frameworks, ensuring that datasets are trustworthy, discoverable, and reusable. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to translate data requirements into effective engineering solutions, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the World Bank's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Data Engineer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Analyzing, validating, and cleansing geospatial and non-geospatial data to ensure integrity and quality.
  • Implementing automated testing and monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve data quality issues, including spatial data quality checks.
  • Optimizing data pipelines for efficient processing and storage of large datasets, particularly spatial datasets necessary for platform capabilities.
  • Maintaining data infrastructure and platforms, addressing issues promptly to ensure reliable availability of geospatial data products.
  • Participating in agile ceremonies to align data engineering efforts with project goals.
  • Collaborating with data scientists, analysts, GIS specialists, and product owners to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that drive business value.
  • Analyzing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for data processes, pipelines, and systems to facilitate knowledge sharing and compliance.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), GIS, geology, geodesy, data science, computer science, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of experience is acceptable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct professional-level research and analysis in geospatial technologies, propose solutions to moderately complex problems, and provide guidance to junior staff. A passion for innovation and staying updated with the latest technology trends is essential, as is the ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities. Recommended certifications include Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate, or Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, GIS, geology, geodesy, data science, or computer science. A Bachelor’s degree is also acceptable if accompanied by sufficient experience. The emphasis is on candidates who have a strong foundation in data engineering and geospatial technologies, which is critical for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or 7 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. This experience should include a strong focus on data engineering, geospatial data management, and the implementation of ETL/ELT frameworks. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with data pipelines, data quality assurance, and integration practices, as well as experience in collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver effective data solutions.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. While no additional languages are specified as preferred, knowledge of other languages may be beneficial in a diverse working environment.
