Job Overview: The Chemical Engineer position at CERN involves joining a multidisciplinary team focused on developing high-performance superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) cavities. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Chemical Engineer include developing, operating, and optimizing chemical and electrochemical surface-processing techniques for SRF accelerating cavities and their subassemblies. The engineer will be responsible for optimizing existing processes by conducting laboratory-scale chemical and electrochemical trials and applying multiphysics simulation tools to enhance process performance and reproducibility. Additionally, the role involves defining technical requirements and coordinating the design, procurement, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of new equipment and facilities for the surface finishing of SRF components. The engineer will also develop, validate, document, and implement operating procedures, process specifications, and quality control methods for these components. Effective communication of results and technical recommendations through reports, reviews, and project meetings is essential, as is ensuring that all safety measures and documentation are kept up to date and effectively implemented across all processes and facilities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. A strong background in applied electrochemistry and corrosion is essential, along with field experience in modeling, simulation, and the development and optimization of chemical or electrochemical treatment processes. A good knowledge of chemical engineering unitary operations and chemical process safety is required, as well as familiarity with electrochemical characterization techniques. Knowledge of materials science, including both organic and inorganic materials, is important, and initial practical experience with wet surface finishing processes would be considered an asset. Additionally, knowledge of metallurgy would be beneficial for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with equivalent relevant experience may also be considered. The educational qualifications should provide a solid foundation in chemical engineering principles, particularly those related to electrochemistry and materials science.

Candidates may be exposed to carcinogens, mutagens, or agents toxic to reproduction, and must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
