Job Overview:
The scientist" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Data Scientist position is situated within the Statistics and Data Analytics Division of the Department for Economics and Data Analytics (DEDA) at WIPO. The primary function of this role is to contribute to the development and modernization of WIPO's statistical and analytical outputs. The Data Scientist will be responsible for delivering high-quality, transparent, and internationally comparable intellectual property (IP) statistics. This role involves applying advanced analytics and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) techniques to generate actionable insights for Member States and senior management. The Data Scientist will also play a crucial role in promoting best practices in data governance and analytics, supporting the Division's strategic and digital transformation priorities. The incumbent will work closely with various internal stakeholders and may interact with national and regional IP offices, ensuring that the analytical outputs align with the needs of the organization and its members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Scientist will perform a variety of principal duties, including: implementing and enhancing statistical reporting tools to ensure accessibility and clarity; building and maintaining web-based dashboards and analytics pipelines; conducting analytical workstreams within statistical projects using advanced techniques like machine learning and predictive modeling; performing data analysis with tools such as SQL, R, and Python; applying MLOps best practices for model development and deployment; supporting projects throughout their lifecycle from problem definition to presentation of findings; contributing to the modernization of statistical databases and analytics pipelines; promoting best practices in data management and analytics; and contributing to the strategic and operational activities of the Division. The role may also involve other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, computer science, economics, or a related discipline. Essential qualifications include at least six years of progressively responsible professional experience in data analytics, data science, or machine learning. Experience with unit record databases, statistical software (e.g., STATA, Python, R), and applying data science techniques to large-scale databases is required. Candidates should also have experience in advanced data preparation, validation, analysis, modeling, and quality assurance. Desirable qualifications include professional experience in the field of intellectual property and experience in deploying analytical models in production environments.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a first-level university degree in a relevant field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, computer science, or economics. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complex analytical tasks and methodologies that the Data Scientist will be expected to employ in their role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience in data analytics, data science, or machine learning. This experience should include practical application of statistical and econometric software, as well as the ability to generate actionable intelligence from data. Candidates should have a proven track record of applying data science techniques to large datasets and experience in advanced data preparation and modeling.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, good knowledge of other UN official languages is considered desirable, which may enhance communication and collaboration within the multicultural environment of WIPO.

Additional Notes:
The annual salary for this position is approximately $64,121, with a post adjustment of $54,054, leading to a total salary of around $118,175, paid in Swiss francs at the official UN exchange rate. The position is a temporary appointment, renewable based on the organization's needs, budget availability, and satisfactory performance, with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
