The incumbent will be responsible for conducting economic and sector analysis, which includes collecting and interpreting qualitative socio-economic information and statistics from various sources. This role involves maintaining databases related to responsible investment and preparing analytical studies and briefing materials that are accessible to non-specialists. The officer will also contribute to awareness-raising campaigns and assist in organizing expert group meetings and seminars. The position requires a proactive approach to technical cooperation, including the preparation of project proposals and documentation for training programs, as well as monitoring the implementation of these initiatives. The officer will also undertake various administrative tasks to ensure the successful delivery of the unit's work program.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Economic Affairs Officer include:
Conducting economic and sector analysis by collecting and evaluating statistics and qualitative information related to responsible investment for sustainable development.
Maintaining and managing databases that organize non-quantitative information on sustainable investment.
Preparing inputs for briefing notes, speeches, and other materials on sustainable investment issues.
Drafting components of analytical studies on responsible investment policies.
Contributing to awareness-raising campaigns through social media and other platforms.
Assisting in organizing and servicing informal expert group meetings, seminars, and events.
Compiling and analyzing data for technical cooperation project proposals in the area of investment for sustainable development.
Preparing documentation for technical cooperation programs and online training projects.
Performing other related duties as required, including administrative tasks necessary for the unit's work program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, public policy, sustainable development, climate science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of economic principles and their application in development programs, particularly in the context of sustainable investment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as economics, finance, public policy, sustainable development, or climate science. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, or the application of economic principles in development programs is required. Experience in investment issues, particularly related to sustainable finance, is desirable. Additionally, experience working with stock exchange officials and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security market regulators, as well as providing training on stock exchange sustainability, is considered an asset.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, proficiency in English is required, while knowledge of French is desirable. Additionally, knowledge of Russian, Arabic, Spanish, or Chinese (Mandarin) is also considered beneficial.
Additional Notes: These positions are of a temporary nature and are based on project funds, initially available for six months with the possibility of extension. The start date is as soon as possible, and the extension is subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Candidates should be aware that there is no expectation of a fixed-term appointment following this temporary assignment.
