Job Overview:
The Senior Nurse will play a crucial role in overseeing daily clinical activities within the Medical Section of MONUSCO. This position requires the incumbent to ensure that emergency medical coverage is available outside regular working hours, including weekends and public holidays. The Senior Nurse will be responsible for planning and requisitioning medical supplies and equipment, coordinating with the Pharmacy unit, and supporting the Chief Medical Officer in managing medical evacuations and mass casualty incidents. The role also involves providing medical support during evacuations, maintaining medical records, and implementing outreach programs for mission personnel. The Senior Nurse will be expected to conduct training sessions, publish health awareness bulletins, and ensure the maintenance of isolation centers for contagious diseases. This position demands a proactive approach to medical care and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure the health and safety of mission personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Nurse will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: overseeing daily clinical activities, ensuring emergency medical coverage, planning and requisitioning medical supplies, coordinating with the Pharmacy unit, supporting the Chief Medical Officer in CASEVAC/MEDVEAC operations, providing medical support during evacuations, maintaining accurate medical records, implementing logistic plans for field clinics, developing outreach programs, organizing preventive medical care training, publishing health awareness bulletins, maintaining isolation centers, conducting medical briefings and first aid training, overseeing medical inventory, assisting in contract performance evaluations, participating in telehealth projects, and preparing monthly medical reports. The role requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a valid nursing license. Certifications in ECG, CPR, PHTLS, or similar courses are required, and qualification as a BLS instructor is desirable. The position demands a strong foundation in nursing practices and the ability to manage clinical teams effectively. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to professional development and continuous learning in the medical field.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. However, candidates with further education in nursing or related fields will be preferred. The role requires a valid nursing license, which indicates that the candidate has met the necessary educational and professional standards to practice nursing.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in general nursing, including intensive care and health administration. Experience in managing clinical teams, coordinating medical evacuations, and handling mass casualty responses is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in managing medical inventory and supply requisitions, as well as maintaining medical records in database systems such as EarthMed. Prior experience in developing outreach programs and public health awareness campaigns is desirable, along with experience in hospital or clinic management.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in English is required, with a minimum level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is considered desirable, with a minimum level of UN Level II in all language skills. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
