Job Overview: The Communication Assistant will play a vital role in the production and delivery of daily UNifeed packages and posts on the UNifeed website. This position requires a proactive approach to researching a wide range of information sources, both printed and electronic, to compile and present information that will be used in the preparation and production of communications products and services aimed at external audiences. The incumbent will also be responsible for organizing and executing special coverage, coordinating with various partners and media outlets to highlight and publicize key events. Administrative coordination in support of special training and other programs is also a key responsibility. The role involves overseeing the distribution of video materials, ensuring the proper management of film/video archives, and safeguarding historical visual materials. The Communication Assistant will assist in the production, script writing, and editing of news packages from Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which includes researching diverse information sources for breaking news, suggesting content ideas, and preparing detailed shot lists of video and film material. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in planning and executing daily UNifeed productions, recording meetings and interviews, directing shooting on location, performing digital editing, and arranging interviews with officials and experts. The role also includes monitoring social media platforms for feedback and comments, ensuring that new material is prepared for inclusion on the UNifeed website, and editing material to conform to UN standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:
Providing specialized assistance in the production and delivery of daily UNifeed packages and posts on the UNifeed website.
Researching a broad scope of information sources, both printed and electronic, and compiling information for communications products/services.
Organizing and executing special coverage and coordinating with partners and media to publicize key events.
Handling administrative coordination for special training and programs.
Overseeing the distribution of video materials and managing film/video archives.
Assisting in the production, script writing, and editing of news packages from Gaza and the field.
Participating in planning and execution of daily UNifeed productions, including recording and directing shoots.
Performing digital editing of video inserts and components of programs.
Arranging interviews with officials and experts for news packages. 1
Monitoring meetings and newsworthy events, identifying relevant excerpts for processing. 1
Identifying and preparing new material for the UNifeed website, ensuring it meets UN format and style. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or a related area is required. This experience requirement is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in video production, including filming and digital video editing, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in a news environment, and international field experience is desirable. Additionally, experience in producing content for social media and digital communication platforms, as well as re-purposing TV content for various platforms, is advantageous.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher will have a reduced experience requirement, making them eligible with five years of relevant experience instead of seven.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or a related area. For candidates with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is reduced to five years. Relevant experience in video production, including filming and digital video editing, is mandatory. Experience in a news environment is also required, while international field experience and experience in producing for social media and digital platforms are considered desirable.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. According to the UN Language Framework, candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, but for this job opening, Arabic is specifically required alongside English.
Additional Notes: This position is temporarily available until 31 December 2026, with a possibility of extension.
