Job Overview:
The Community Health & Nutrition Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Community Health & Nutrition Officer in the North West Syria (NWS) region. This position is pivotal in ensuring the effective implementation of project activities aimed at enhancing community health and nutrition. The assistant will be responsible for building the capacity of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and health facility nutrition staff, ensuring that program reporting is timely and of high quality. The role involves organizing health education sessions, developing educational materials, and conducting training for community health workers. The assistant will also engage with local leaders and community groups to promote health initiatives and support the distribution of nutritional supplements and medications. This position requires a proactive approach to community engagement and health education, with a focus on improving health outcomes in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Community Health & Nutrition Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: organizing and facilitating health education sessions on topics such as balanced diets, hygiene, disease prevention, and preventive healthcare measures; assisting the Community Health Officer in developing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials tailored for illiterate individuals; conducting initial and refresher training for camp-based community health workers; overseeing the material requests and maintenance of audio-visual equipment; collaborating with local leaders to promote health and nutrition initiatives; conducting health assessments and screenings; supporting breastfeeding education and infant feeding practices; participating in disease surveillance and reporting; coordinating immunization campaigns; and serving as a liaison between community members and healthcare facilities. The assistant will also assist in the procurement and distribution of hygiene materials and translate records and reports as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Community Health & Nutrition Assistant position should possess a degree or diploma in public health, nutrition, community health, or a related field. They should have a solid understanding of community health practices, nutrition education, and public health principles. Experience in community outreach and health education programs is essential, along with familiarity with nutrition assessment and monitoring. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively engage with diverse community members, and an understanding of local cultural practices is important for the role. Candidates should also have proficiency in data collection and reporting, knowledge of hygiene and disease prevention practices, and awareness of relevant health policies. Experience working with stakeholders in the NWS area is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a degree or diploma in public health, nutrition, community health, or a related field. This educational background is critical as it provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding community health practices and nutrition education, which are essential for the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in community outreach, engagement, and health education programs.
