Job Overview:
The VAM Officer NOA position at WFP involves critical responsibilities in security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security-analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security analysis and evidence generation to inform operational decision-making. The incumbent will lead geographical and household targeting, and advocacy efforts, serving as the focal point for Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) at the Area Office. This role is essential in strengthening the capacity of local staff and partners on food security analysis and inter-agency referral management systems. The position requires a proactive approach to managing and generating evidence that supports food security and nutrition analysis, ensuring that WFP's programs are effectively targeted and responsive to the needs of the most vulnerable populations in Somalia. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders, including government entities and local partners, to enhance the quality and consistency of food security data and analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The VAM Officer will be responsible for leading and managing the generation of the VAM evidence base that supports food security and nutrition analysis and programs. This includes conducting complex food security, nutrition, markets, and resilience analysis, preparing timely reports, and implementing data-driven targeting in humanitarian food assistance programs. The officer will provide technical GIS mapping support for food security surveillance and monitoring, maintain and update the Geo-database, and coordinate with partners for food security data collection and analysis. Additionally, the officer will advise on food assistance developments, support capacity building for WFP staff and partners, and manage market price databases. The role also involves supervising VAM associates and field monitoring assistants, ensuring effective program implementation and accountability.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in economics, nutrition/health, social sciences, statistics, agricultural economics, business administration, or international development. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be accepted. The position requires fluency in English and Somali, with a strong emphasis on communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to WFP's values and mission, and possess the ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as economics, nutrition/health, social sciences, statistics, agricultural economics, business administration, or international development is required. A first university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training may also be considered acceptable for this position.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with an advanced degree, or a minimum of three years of experience for those with a first degree. Experience in development, project management, food or non-food assistance management, and professional experience in monitoring, evaluation, capacity-building, and reporting of development/humanitarian projects will be considered advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) and Somali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
