Job Overview:
The UNDP Projects Coordinator will manage a designated project and/or thematic portfolio within the Energy and Environment Unit. This role involves ensuring that projects align with UNDP's Program and Operations Policies and Procedures, as well as the specific Standard Operating Procedures for Kazakhstan. The coordinator will supervise and coordinate project activities, ensuring that results are achieved according to the project documents. Responsibilities include day-to-day management of organizational and substantive issues, budgeting, planning, and monitoring of projects. The coordinator will also provide technical coordination and strategic guidance related to natural resources management, water resources, and sustainable industrial development. The position requires the development of annual work plans, support for project board decision-making, and the implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans to track progress against targets and indicators. The coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders and facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity building activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UNDP Projects Coordinator include:
  • Management of designated projects in accordance with UNDP policies and procedures.
  • Supervision and coordination of project activities to ensure compliance with project documents.
  • Day-to-day management of organizational and substantive issues, including budgeting and planning.
  • Development of annual work plans aligned with project documents.
  • Support for project board meetings, providing updates and documenting decisions.
  • Coordination of exit strategies for project closure.
  • Policy advice and capacity development support for national counterparts.
  • Monitoring project progress and managing risks, including reporting on issues and corrective actions.
  • Financial monitoring and ensuring compliance with budgetary requirements. 1
  • Coordination of partner meetings and field visits to address implementation issues. 1
  • Facilitation of mid-term reviews and evaluations. 1
  • Development of strategic partnerships and resource mobilization for new projects. 1
  • Capacity building and knowledge sharing activities, including training and workshops. 1
  • Promotion of advocacy for UNDP’s work and collaboration opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Geology, Mining, Metallurgy, Economics, Social Sciences, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in the mentioned areas with an additional 2 years of relevant experience will be considered. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in management advisory services or hands-on experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation. Proficiency in using office software and web-based management systems is essential, along with knowledge in thematic areas such as water resources management, climate change, and sustainable development.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree) in relevant fields such as Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or related disciplines. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) with additional relevant experience may also be considered. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental management and development projects.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master's degree, or 4 years for those with a Bachelor's degree. This experience should be at the national or international level, focusing on management advisory services, project design, monitoring, and evaluation. Familiarity with the UN system and experience in implementing development projects are highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Russian is required, with proficiency in Kazakh being an advantage. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and partners in Kazakhstan.
