NATO DIANA, the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic, is a NATO body established to accelerate innovation for defense and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security within the Alliance. It operates with a Board of Directors representing all 32 NATO nations and an operational team known as the DIANA Executive (DX). The organization is dedicated to fostering deep-tech innovation and operates from three offices located in Europe and North America. Job Overview:
The Enterprise Solutions Architect serves as the senior technical authority for digital systems within NATO DIANA. This role is pivotal in ensuring the design, integrity, and coherence of software solutions, information architecture, and data governance. The architect is responsible for providing end-to-end architectural leadership across various domains, including requirements, data, integration, security, and user experience. The position requires the architect to ensure that all solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with both DIANA's business objectives and the broader NATO enterprise architecture. As the lead architect for digital platforms, the incumbent will guide technical leadership across solution design, delivery, integration, data foundations, reporting, and ongoing evolution of digital solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Enterprise Solutions Architect include defining and maintaining DIANA's enterprise and solution architecture frameworks, governance, standards, and technology roadmaps that align with NATO requirements. The architect will translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions, ensuring alignment from concept through delivery. They will own the architecture of DIANA's digital platforms across application, data, integration, and technology domains. Additionally, the architect will lead information and data architecture, including governance, data quality, integration, API standards, analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities. They will embed security-by-design principles throughout the solution lifecycle, manage identity, secure architecture, application security testing, and user experience. The architect will act as DIANA's technical authority for digital solutions, providing technical leadership, design assurance, and vendor oversight. Collaboration with stakeholders across the digital lifecycle to align priorities, manage dependencies, and implement architectural decisions is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the architect will drive the evolution of DIANA OS, the bespoke developed SaaS platform, through product thinking, agile delivery, DevSecOps, user adoption, and continuous improvement. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess a Master's degree from a nationally recognized university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing enterprise architecture frameworks, governance processes, and technology roadmaps, as well as translating business requirements into solution architectures for complex digital environments. Proven experience as a Solution, Systems, or Enterprise Architect delivering complex cloud-based solutions is essential, supported by recent software development experience that enables technical leadership and the leveraging of AI-enabled development approaches. Strong experience in information, data, and integration architecture, including data governance, data modeling, analytics, API development, and enterprise integration is required. Candidates must also have experience embedding security-by-design principles, including threat modeling, secure architecture, identity and access management, automated security testing, and software quality assurance. Experience leading suppliers, contractors, or delivery partners and contributing to large-scale SaaS platforms or digital transformation programs is also necessary.
Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems from a nationally recognized university. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is acceptable if accompanied by sufficient relevant experience. The educational background should provide a strong foundation in technical and analytical skills necessary for the role.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master's degree, or at least 8 years for those with a Bachelor's degree. This experience should include a proven track record in developing enterprise architecture frameworks and delivering complex cloud-based solutions. Candidates should have experience in leading digital transformation initiatives and managing technical teams or projects.
Languages:
Candidates must possess a minimum level of NATO's official languages, specifically V (Advanced) in one language and I (Beginner) in the other. Most internal work at DIANA is conducted in English, making proficiency in English essential. Knowledge of French is also beneficial but not mandatory.
Additional Notes:
The position offers a definite duration contract of three years, which may be extended. If the successful applicant is seconded from the national administration of a NATO member state, a similar contract will be offered, with the possibility of renewal for an additional three years, subject to national authority agreement. The maximum period of service in this post as a seconded staff member is six years. The role is full-time, and NATO is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal access to employment opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to reside in the host nation for the duration of their contract. DIANA has a flexible teleworking policy, allowing for work in the office, at home, and across NATO Allied Nations, subject to managerial approval.
