Job Overview: The CH & Nutrition Officer is tasked with overseeing the implementation and providing technical support for RI’s community health and nutrition program in Northwest Syria (NWS). This role is critical in ensuring the quality execution of project activities and enhancing the capacity of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and health facility nutrition staff. The position holder will be responsible for timely and quality program reporting, effective budget management, and active participation in nutrition and community health coordination mechanisms within Syria. The officer will lead the development and execution of community health and nutrition activities, ensuring adherence to technical quality standards and the achievement of high-quality deliverables. Continuous assessment of program progress through field visits, lessons learned, and corrective measures will be essential to the role, as will collaboration with various teams within RI to recruit and train staff effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The CH & Nutrition Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing leadership and support to community health and nutrition teams, overseeing the development and implementation of community health and nutrition activities, and ensuring timely achievement of project deliverables. The officer will conduct regular field visits to monitor project implementation, assess the capacity of CHWs and nutrition staff, and identify training needs. They will organize and conduct training programs in line with established guidelines, develop monitoring and evaluation systems, and facilitate joint supervisions with other departments. Additionally, the officer will manage budget lines related to community health activities, ensure consistency in messaging with the WASH team, and lead the development of training curricula and IEC tools. The role also involves compiling monthly activity reports, conducting data analysis, and representing RI in relevant coordination mechanisms.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, public health, human nutrition, or a related health field. A minimum of 2 years of experience in implementing community health and/or nutrition programs is required, along with experience in the implementation of CMAM (Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition) and maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN). Proficiency in both written and oral English and Arabic is essential, as is flexibility in work schedule and processes. Candidates should be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google software, particularly Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs, MS Word, and MS Excel. Familiarity with Adobe suite is preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as medicine, public health, human nutrition, or other related health disciplines. This foundational education is crucial for understanding the complexities of community health and nutrition programs and for effectively implementing the necessary interventions.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in the implementation of community health and nutrition programs. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing health initiatives, particularly those related to CMAM and MIYCN, demonstrating their ability to navigate the challenges of health program implementation in complex environments.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is vital for collaboration with local teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities and partners.
