Job Overview:
The Director of Energy at WRI Mexico will lead the Energy Program, designing and implementing strategies that align with the goals of the WRI Polsky Energy Center. This role involves managing projects and teams, developing partnerships, and securing funding to enhance the program's impact. The Director will ensure that strategic objectives are met, promote high-quality technical knowledge generation, and position WRI Mexico as a leader in energy transition efforts. The role requires a proactive approach to developing public policies and transforming the energy sector, ensuring that WRI Mexico contributes effectively to national and global decarbonization goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director will be responsible for designing and implementing the Energy Program strategy in coordination with the WRI Polsky Energy Center and WRI Mexico's Executive Direction. Key responsibilities include leading the development of work plans, change theories, objectives, and key results to ensure effective strategy implementation. The Director will supervise project execution, ensuring compliance with established results, performance indicators, and objectives. Financial management of the program, including budget tracking and grant supervision, is essential. The Director will identify funding opportunities, lead fundraising efforts, and strengthen relationships with institutional donors and strategic allies. They will also monitor fundraising pipelines and develop income projections to support institutional decision-making. Establishing and strengthening collaborative relationships with government institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations, academia, funding agencies, and other strategic actors is crucial. The Director will promote collaboration with other WRI programs, centers, and international offices to develop joint initiatives that contribute to institutional objectives. Identifying opportunities and risks impacting project implementation and proposing strategies for effective management is also part of the role. The Director will define success criteria, monitor project performance, and communicate progress and results to internal and external stakeholders. Participation in WRI Mexico's institutional management and contributing to the program's development in alignment with organizational strategy is expected. Leading and guiding the research agenda of the Energy Program, driving the development of analyses and solutions for an affordable and low-carbon energy transition, is also a key responsibility. The Director will develop and co-author knowledge products, including reports, technical documents, tools, and other analytical products. Representing WRI Mexico in meetings, forums, high-level events, media interviews, and dialogue spaces with strategic allies is essential. Collaborating with WRI's Board and other energy sector leaders to strengthen institutional positioning and contribute to program strategy development is also part of the role. Finally, the Director will supervise the Energy Program team, promoting their professional development and ensuring the achievement of the area’s objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, preferably with training in international development, environmental policies, or environmental sciences. A Master's degree in a relevant field is desirable. A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in the energy sector is required, with proven experience in program implementation and project management. Candidates should have experience in energy markets, energy technologies, and public policy related to energy. Proven experience in developing partnerships and collaboration with governments, businesses, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and funding agencies is essential. Candidates should also have demonstrable experience in large-scale fundraising and applied research, including the publication of technical and quantitative analyses. Availability for travel is necessary.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates with training in international development, environmental policies, or environmental sciences. A Master's degree in a relevant field is highly desirable and would enhance a candidate's qualifications for the position.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12 years of professional experience in the energy sector. Candidates should have a proven track record in program implementation and project management, with specific experience in energy markets, energy technologies, and public policy related to energy. Experience in developing partnerships and collaboration with various stakeholders, including governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and funding agencies, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in large-scale fundraising and applied research, including the publication of technical analyses.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Spanish, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The position reports to the Executive Direction of WRI Mexico, with a matrix line to the Global Energy Direction. The Director will supervise the Energy Program team, including program managers, research associates, and other assigned personnel.
