Job Overview: The Senior Data Analyst Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing the oversight capabilities of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at WFP. This position requires specialized senior-level data analytics expertise to provide strategic advisory support to OIG management. The consultant will be responsible for extracting, cleaning, transforming, and analyzing data from various corporate systems and other relevant sources. They will develop repeatable analytics and dashboards to support audit and oversight work, identify trends and potential risk indicators, and contribute to data-enabled audit planning and fieldwork. The consultant will also provide technical leadership and guidance to data analysts, ensuring the quality of analytical outputs and formulating actionable recommendations for management. This role is pivotal in strengthening OIG's capacity to utilize data analytics and digital tools in its oversight processes, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of audit activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of tasks under the supervision of the designated OIG manager, including:
Providing expert advice on the use of data analytics in audit planning and risk assessment.
Identifying high-impact opportunities for expanding data-driven audit coverage.
Proposing new analytical solutions and tools aligned with OIG priorities.
Conducting data extraction and preparation from various sources, assessing data quality, and performing necessary cleansing and transformation.
Conducting exploratory analyses to identify trends and control weaknesses.
Advising on audit scope and sampling strategies based on data analysis.
Developing complex visualizations and dashboards to support insight generation.
Leading the development of OIG's data analytics approaches and methodologies.
Liaising with relevant business units to facilitate timely access to data. 1
Ensuring compliance with organizational rules and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related field. They should have 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience as a Data Analyst, scientist" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Data Scientist, or Data Engineer, with a strong background in analyzing large datasets from ERP and corporate systems. Experience in leading analytical workstreams, mentoring junior analysts, and designing data analytics solutions at an organizational level is essential. Familiarity with WFP supply chain processes and systems is highly desirable, along with experience in internal audit, external audit, investigation, compliance, or oversight functions. Candidates should also demonstrate strong technical skills in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools such as Tableau.
Educational Background: A university degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics is required. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in data analysis, statistical methods, and technical skills necessary for the role.
Experience: The position requires 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in data analytics, with a focus on large and complex datasets. Candidates should have experience in leading analytical projects and mentoring junior staff, as well as a proven track record in designing and implementing data analytics solutions. Experience in international organizations or the UN system is an asset, particularly in roles related to audit, compliance, or oversight functions.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to WFP's operational areas, is considered an asset. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical contexts.
Additional Notes: This position is locally recruited, and candidates must reside in the Rome area. The role is full-time, and the consultant will work closely with OIG staff and other stakeholders.
