Job Overview:
The Graphic Illustrator position at FAO Timor-Leste is designed for a creative individual who will collaborate with project teams to develop innovative concepts and visual themes. The primary focus of this role is to create graphic illustrations that enhance training materials, messages, and advisories, ensuring they are comprehensible and engaging for the target audience. The Graphic Illustrator will be responsible for translating complex concepts into visually appealing illustrations, utilizing professional design software to produce high-quality outputs. This role requires a strong understanding of the intended audience and the purpose of the materials being developed, as well as the ability to incorporate feedback from various stakeholders, including the FAO Communications Officer and government institutions. The Graphic Illustrator will play a vital role in supporting the development of training manuals and compendiums related to disaster risk reduction and anticipatory action, ensuring that the visual content aligns with FAO standards and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with creating original artworks and illustrations that effectively communicate key messages and concepts. Specific responsibilities include: analyzing text to translate concepts into illustrations; using colors, graphics, and effects to enhance visual representation; combining hand-drawn and digital techniques as necessary; performing multiple rounds of corrections based on quality checks; delivering high- and low-resolution files for various dissemination channels; supporting project teams in the development of training manuals and compendiums with relevant graphic illustrations; ensuring compliance with FAO communication standards and guidelines; and maintaining liaison with the Office of Communications to ensure alignment with messaging and review processes. The Graphic Illustrator will also be expected to manage multiple design assignments and deliver quality outputs within agreed timelines, while collaborating effectively with technical teams and government counterparts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in fine arts, graphic design, or a related field, or have relevant technical training or qualifications. A minimum of two years of experience in fine arts, graphic design, or a related field is required. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of English and Tetun, both written and spoken. The role demands strong technical and functional skills, including the ability to transform technical content into engaging visual products, develop various types of communication materials, and produce high-quality design outputs suitable for print and digital formats. Familiarity with agriculture, climate change, and disaster risk reduction is considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
The position requires a university degree in fine arts, graphic design, or a related field. Alternatively, relevant technical training or qualifications may be accepted. This educational background is essential for ensuring that the Graphic Illustrator has the necessary skills and knowledge to create effective visual communications that meet the needs of diverse audiences.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of professional experience in fine arts, graphic design, or a related field. Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are English and Tetun, both of which must be proficiently spoken and written.
