Job Overview:
The Industry Engagement Consultant for the Steel Methane Programme will be responsible for developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies aimed at engaging metallurgical coal producers, steel producers, and investors. The consultant will work to build and grow an industry partnership that promotes Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) to drive mitigation efforts. This role involves creating communication products and planning outreach activities to enhance awareness and uptake of the Steel Methane Partnership, methane transparency, and the associated MRV framework. The consultant will also deepen engagement with the broader Steel Methane Programme, ensuring that stakeholders are informed and involved in the initiative's goals and activities. The position requires a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, with a focus on collaboration and visibility within the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: developing and delivering a strategic stakeholder engagement and prioritization plan focused on key markets such as Australia, China, India, Japan, and the US; facilitating the engagement and recruitment of metallurgical coal producers, steel companies, investors, and other relevant stakeholders; promoting awareness and uptake of the Steel Methane Partnership and related MRV framework; creating and delivering external visibility outputs such as webinars, briefings, outreach materials, and digital products; coordinating with the IMEO communications team to ensure consistent messaging; producing stakeholder mapping and prioritization for key SMP markets; generating engagement outputs for the steel sector and supply-chain awareness; providing investor engagement products like briefings and action plans; and delivering webinars, meetings, and presentations for outreach activities. The consultant will also provide strategic advice on stakeholder dynamics and engagement opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in fields such as energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, international relations, or a related discipline. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, or international relations is required. Applicants should have a strong understanding of methane emissions, industrial decarbonization, metallurgical coal, steel value chains, or responsible sourcing. A proven track record of engaging with companies, investors, governments, industry associations, NGOs, or international organizations is essential. Strong communication and engagement skills, along with an existing network of stakeholders, are also necessary for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, or international relations. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of the issues at hand and for effectively engaging with various stakeholders in the industry.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in relevant fields such as energy, environment, climate policy, business, finance, or international relations. This level of experience is necessary to ensure that the consultant has the expertise and knowledge to effectively engage with stakeholders and drive the objectives of the Steel Methane Programme.

Languages:
English is the primary working language of UNEP's IMEO. Proficiency in additional languages such as Spanish, Russian, or Chinese is considered an asset and may enhance the consultant's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
