Job Overview:
The position of Consultant at UNESCO involves providing comprehensive programme, coordination, communication, and technical support for the implementation of culture sector activities and intersectoral initiatives across the Pacific. The Consultant will play a pivotal role in supporting programme coordination and partnership-related activities, engaging with UNESCO Member States and stakeholders, including National Commissions for UNESCO, line ministries, development partners, regional organizations, and United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs). A significant aspect of the role includes cross-sectoral support, particularly at the intersection of culture and education, which encompasses activities related to heritage education and capacity development. Additionally, the Consultant will enhance the Office's communication, visibility, and outreach efforts by preparing web content, social media posts, and other digital products to raise awareness about UNESCO's work in the Pacific region. This position is crucial for fostering collaboration and ensuring effective implementation of UNESCO's culture sector initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will undertake a variety of duties, including: A. Programme and Technical Support: Supporting the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of UNESCO culture sector projects across the Pacific; contributing to project documents, concept notes, technical briefs, work plans, presentations, and progress reports; assisting with activities related to World Heritage, intangible cultural heritage, cultural policies, and the protection of cultural expressions; organizing regional workshops, consultations, training activities, and technical meetings; and facilitating the collection and analysis of relevant information and data. B. Coordination and Partnership Engagement: Preparing and organizing coordination activities with UNESCO National Commissions and relevant stakeholders; supporting partnership activities with development partners and regional organizations; providing technical support for UNESCO’s participation in UNCTs; and preparing meeting summaries and follow-up actions. C. Intersectoral Support: Contributing to intersectoral initiatives and joint programming; supporting heritage education and capacity-building activities; and identifying opportunities for collaboration across sectors. D. Communication and Outreach: Preparing communication and visibility plans; developing content for websites and social media; producing visibility materials and publications; and maintaining relevant programme information and communication resources.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as Culture, Heritage Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, International Development, Education, Social Sciences, or related areas. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of UNESCO’s culture-related normative instruments and programmes, as well as intersectoral approaches and partnership development. Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders in a multicultural environment. Excellent organizational and project management skills are also required, along with experience in website content development and digital communications.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Culture, Heritage Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, International Development, Education, Social Sciences, or related disciplines. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of culture and heritage management, as well as the interconnections between culture and sustainable development.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in areas such as culture, heritage, international development, programme management, education, or communications. Experience working with government institutions, international organizations, development partners, or regional organizations is highly valued. Additionally, candidates should have a proven track record in project implementation, coordination, and stakeholder engagement, as well as experience in preparing technical reports and communication materials.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the Consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders across the Pacific region.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is set for a duration of eleven (11) months, commencing upon contract signature. The position is classified as a Level 2 - Middle Consultant Contract, and it is open to external candidates.
