Job Overview:
The internship is located within the Population and Social Statistics Section (PSS) of the Statistics Division of ESCAP. This is an unpaid, full-time internship that requires in-person attendance at the Bangkok duty station. The internship is expected to last for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months depending on the needs of the division. Interns will work five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours, under the supervision of a staff member in the department. The Statistics Division is guided by the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and is involved in various statistical activities, including capacity building, data collection, and analysis. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that contributes to the division's objectives and the overall mission of ESCAP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a range of responsibilities that may vary based on their background and the specific internship period. Key duties include assisting with work on gender statistics, population and housing census, migration, displacement and statelessness statistics, disability statistics, and population registers. Interns will conduct literature reviews on statistical frameworks and indicators, contribute to drafting background papers and technical documents, and support the organization of meetings and events such as Expert Group Meetings and workshops. They will also provide support for capacity-building activities in the Asia-Pacific region and assist with communication efforts related to the section's work, including newsletters and online platforms. Additional related duties may be assigned as required.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: they must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or they must be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). No prior work experience is required, but applicants should possess skills or coursework that would be beneficial to the United Nations during their internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong academic background, either in a graduate program or in the final year of their undergraduate studies. The educational qualifications should be relevant to the work of the Statistics Division, particularly in areas related to statistics, social sciences, or other relevant fields that align with the division's focus on population and social statistics.

Experience:
