Job Overview:
As a engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Project Engineer on Building Projects within the Site and Civil Engineering Department, you will play a crucial role in the management and execution of industrial and tertiary building projects. This position requires you to work under the supervision of a CERN Project Manager, where you will be responsible for coordinating various stakeholders, including users, technical experts, design consultants, and contractors. Your primary goal will be to ensure that all projects meet their technical, safety, schedule, quality, and budget objectives. You will engage in feasibility studies, define requirements, and contribute to the preliminary design of new builds, refurbishments, and infrastructure projects. Your role will also involve preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and overseeing construction works to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and safety standards. You will monitor project progress, manage risks, and contribute to project reporting, ensuring that all activities align with CERN's high standards of excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to feasibility studies and requirements definition for new builds, refurbishments, and infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate design services provided by architects and engineering consultants, ensuring the integration of various disciplines such as architectural, structural, civil works, building services, and technical equipment.
• Engage with users and internal stakeholders to define project needs and manage design interfaces.
• Prepare consultancy and construction tender documents, evaluate bids, and assist in the appointment of designers and contractors.
• Oversee construction activities on-site, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality requirements, and safety measures.
• Monitor project progress, including quantities, costs, risks, and schedules, and contribute to payment certification and change management.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning, and handover activities, and follow up on defects and outstanding works until closure.
• Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders to ensure project alignment and success.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and possess a professional background in Civil Engineering or a related field. The ideal candidate should have either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Additionally, candidates must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required. Alternatively, a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is acceptable, provided the candidate has limited post-graduation experience.

Experience:
Candidates should have a professional background in Civil Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 6 years of relevant experience for those with a Master's degree. For PhD holders, no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience is required. Experience in managing multidisciplinary building projects is highly desirable.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to learning the basics of the other language, which is beneficial for effective communication within the international environment at CERN.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. The target start date for this role is January 1, 202

• The position may involve work in radiation areas, interventions in underground installations, and may require a valid driving license. Candidates should be prepared for stand-by duty and may need to work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as required by the organization's needs. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 6372 to 7004 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, and additional family allowances depending on individual circumstances.
