Job Overview:
The UN Resident Coordinator (RC) serves as the highest-ranking representative of the UN development system in Argentina, leading the UN Country Team and ensuring accountability for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The RC is responsible for fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, including government, civil society, and private sector partners, to address national development needs and challenges. The role requires a deep understanding of the UN's assets and expertise to promote sustainable development and advocate for the SDGs. The RC must engage with diverse partners, coordinate UN support to the government, and ensure alignment of UN efforts with national priorities. The position demands strong leadership, strategic communication, and the ability to navigate complex political environments to achieve the UN's objectives in the country.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resident Coordinator has a wide range of responsibilities, including representing the UN at high levels of government, leading the UN Country Team in developing and monitoring the UN Cooperation Framework, and coordinating system-wide support to the government. The RC is tasked with promoting human rights and gender equality, engaging with various stakeholders to foster partnerships, and advancing regional collaboration. The role involves overseeing country financing instruments, managing security for UN personnel, and ensuring compliance with UN policies on sexual exploitation and abuse. The RC also facilitates access to resources for sustainable development, leads strategic communication efforts, and integrates humanitarian and development programming in conflict settings. Additionally, the RC is responsible for nurturing staff learning and implementing staff rules and policies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant fields such as development studies, international relations, or social sciences. A first-level university degree with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires over 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, including five years in development, human rights, or humanitarian work at the country level. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or in senior inter-agency coordination roles is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong political judgment and the ability to engage with senior government officials.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in development studies, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, law, or closely related fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates must have over 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, including at least five years of cumulative experience in development, human rights, rule of law, peace-building, or humanitarian work at the country level outside of their own country. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator is required, and senior-level inter-agency coordination experience may be considered in lieu of RC experience. Experience in managing multi-sectoral humanitarian programs and engaging with senior government officials is desirable.

Languages:
English and Spanish are mandatory for this position. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages at UN Level III. Knowledge of French is an asset but not required.

The position is classified as an A duty station, with a duration of assignment of five years. The start date is as soon as possible, and eligibility is limited to candidates who are members of the Resident Coordinator Pool.
