Job Overview:
As a Technical Student in Applied Physics at CERN, you will immerse yourself in a unique learning environment where theoretical knowledge meets practical application. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist experienced engineers, technicians, and scientists in the execution of projects related to applied physics.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of instrumentation and sensor technologies.
• Participate in data acquisition processes and support radiation measurement activities.
• Engage in collaborative discussions and brainstorming sessions with team members to enhance project outcomes.
• Learn and apply technical skills in a practical setting, gaining insights into the workings of advanced scientific research.
• Maintain a proactive attitude towards learning and skill development, seeking guidance and feedback from supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree program in Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, or a related field. It is essential that the university requires or encourages the completion of a practical training period as part of the curriculum. Applicants should demonstrate a strong understanding of applied physics fundamentals relevant to their studies, along with a proactive attitude towards learning and collaboration. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team are also necessary.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have completed at least 18 months of their studies (3 semesters) in the relevant field by the time of selection. PhD students or holders are not eligible for this position. Candidates must remain enrolled as full-time students during their studentship at CERN.

Experience:
This position is aimed at students who are in the early stages of their academic careers, specifically those who have completed a minimum of 18 months of study in their chosen field. Previous experience in a technical or research environment is not mandatory but can be beneficial. The focus is on learning and development rather than extensive prior experience.

Languages:
A good command of English or French is required for this position, as effective communication is crucial in a diverse and international work environment. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The application deadline for this position is set for 16th October 2026 at 23:59 Geneva time. The ideal start date for the position is 1st April 2027, with a contract duration ranging from 4 to 12 months. The role is fully onsite, requiring the selected candidate to work 40 hours per week. Compensation includes a monthly allowance of 3486 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year and additional benefits such as health insurance coverage and travel expenses to Geneva, depending on individual circumstances. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State, and certain nationalities are currently not eligible due to membership agreements.
