Job Overview:
The UN Social Media Internship is designed to provide students or recent graduates with practical experience in the field of communications and public information within the context of international law and human rights. The intern will work closely with the Office of the Assistant Secretary General (OASG) of the IIIM, contributing to the strategic communication efforts of the organization. The role involves managing social media accounts, creating content, and engaging with various digital platforms to promote the IIIM's initiatives and campaigns. The intern will gain valuable insights into the workings of the UN and the importance of effective communication in advancing human rights and accountability. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Social Media Intern will have a range of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the IIIM's digital presence and outreach. Key duties include:
  • Assisting in the management of the IIIM's social media accounts, including LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and WhatsApp.
  • Scheduling and posting content that aligns with the organization's priorities, campaigns, events, and publications.
  • Preparing initial drafts of social media posts for review and final approval by the Associate Public Information Officer and the Head of Entity.
  • Supporting the development of multimedia content, such as graphics, short videos, infographics, and other visual assets to enhance engagement.
  • Conducting daily monitoring of social media platforms to track relevant developments and trends, and preparing summaries for the team.
  • Promoting events, reports, and campaigns through various digital channels to increase visibility and engagement.
  • Measuring and evaluating the impact of digital outreach activities, including campaigns and public information initiatives, and contributing to reports on communications effectiveness.
  • Preparing regular analytics reports and dashboards that highlight trends, key performance indicators, and recommendations for improving engagement.
  • Performing other digital communications-related tasks as assigned to support the work of the OASG and the IIIM.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants for the UN Internship Programme are not required to have prior professional work experience; however, they must have a field of study closely related to the internship. Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in areas such as Communications, Marketing, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field. Familiarity with social media platforms and their content formats is essential, as is experience with content creation tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of social media management tools, such as Hootsuite, is also required. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program (or equivalent), or they should have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. It is important for applicants to indicate their current educational status and provide proof of their qualifications with their application. An official certificate may be required at a later stage to confirm their academic standing.

Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should possess relevant academic knowledge and skills that align with the responsibilities of the position. Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this internship, fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required. Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, with regular working hours from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The expected duration of the internship is between 3 to 6 months, starting in September 2026, with specific start dates and duration subject to discussion with the selected candidate. Interns are responsible for all expenses related to the internship, including travel, accommodation, and living costs. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and candidates must ensure they have adequate insurance coverage during their internship. Additionally, interns must maintain confidentiality regarding any unpublished information obtained during their internship and are bound by the same duties and obligations as UN staff members.
