Job Overview:
The Associate Human Rights Officer position is crucial for monitoring and implementing international human rights law and humanitarian law within Syria. The incumbent will be responsible for collecting, documenting, and analyzing evidence-based information on various rights, including civil, cultural, economic, social, and political rights. This role involves drafting reports and analytical papers that inform strategies and policies while ensuring that gender perspectives are integrated into all areas of work. The officer will also provide technical support to national counterparts and contribute to capacity-building activities aimed at strengthening human rights systems and frameworks. The position requires a proactive approach to promoting transitional justice processes and ensuring compliance with international human rights standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Human Rights Officer include monitoring the implementation of international human rights law, collecting and analyzing information on human rights situations, drafting reports and legal analyses, providing technical support to national counterparts, and contributing to human rights capacity-building activities. The officer will also engage with various stakeholders, including State institutions and civil society, to promote the integration of human rights standards into development policies. Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in human rights, law, political science, international relations, social sciences, economics, public policy, sustainable development, or humanitarian affairs is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in human rights or related fields is required. Relevant experience may include political affairs, public affairs, international relations, law, social sciences, economics, development, or humanitarian affairs. Candidates should have knowledge of human rights monitoring and reporting methodologies, as well as experience in conducting field missions.

Languages:
English and Arabic are required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of French is desirable but not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate their language skills according to the UN Language Framework.
