Job Overview: The Security Officer position at WFP is crucial for the daily management of security operations, ensuring the effective delivery of programs that meet food assistance needs while maintaining the safety and security of WFP personnel, activities, and facilities. The role involves contributing to the development and implementation of security and safety contingency plans, liaising with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), and supporting compliance with Security Risk Management Measures. The Security Officer will oversee facility access control measures, manage security budgets, and coordinate with the Human Resources Unit on staffing matters. Additionally, the officer will monitor local security developments, prepare security reports, conduct orientation briefings for new personnel, and provide operational security support during emergencies. This position requires a proactive approach to security management and a commitment to ensuring the safety of all WFP operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development and implementation of security and safety contingency and business continuity plans for the office, ensuring the standardization and testing of emergency response systems across WFP facilities in-country.
Liaise with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and participate in security operations and management meetings to keep WFP management and staff informed about security developments affecting the Country Office and Field Offices.
Support compliance with Security Risk Management Measures in coordination with WFP’s Security Division.
Oversee facility access control measures to ensure the safety and security of WFP personnel, visitors, and assets.
Manage security budgets and procurement planning for efficient utilization of security resources.
Ensure security equipment is properly issued, in serviceable condition, and compliant with established standards.
Coordinate with the Human Resources Unit on security staffing matters, ensuring compliance with WFP policies.
Monitor and analyze local security developments and emerging risks, providing timely updates to the supervisor.
Prepare and submit comprehensive security reports, including political and security developments. 1

Perform other security-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Security Management, International Relations, Law Enforcement, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of overall experience, including 3 years of professional experience in security management or security risk management, with a background in international humanitarian development. A minimum of 1 year of this professional experience must be post-graduation. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of security operations and the ability to work in a complex environment.
Educational Background: The position requires an Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Security Management, International Relations, Law Enforcement, or Political Science. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of security management in humanitarian contexts and for effectively contributing to WFP's mission.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of overall experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role related to security management or security risk management. This experience should include a background in international humanitarian development, demonstrating the ability to navigate security challenges in diverse environments. A minimum of 1 year of experience must be post-graduation, ensuring that candidates have recent and relevant experience in the field.
Languages: Fluency in both spoken and written English and Bangla is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse environments in which WFP operates.
Additional Notes: This position is a Fixed Term contract for a duration of 12 months, based in Dhaka with frequent field visits. The vacancy is specifically for Bangladeshi Nationals.
