Job Overview: The UNEP FI Climate and Investment Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, delivery, monitoring, and communication of activities related to COP31 and the Investor Agenda. This position requires a proactive individual who can engage a broad range of financial institutions, including commercial banks, asset managers, insurers, and multi-lateral development banks and agencies. The consultant will be responsible for organizing COP31 engagement across UNEP FI, contributing to key investor climate action guidance and reporting initiatives, and facilitating coordination and communications between various stakeholders. The role is vital for ensuring that UNEP FI meets its objectives under the Investor Agenda and aligns with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several specific duties, including: organizing COP31 activities across UNEP FI on behalf of the Climate Team; supporting UNEP FI contributions to the ICAPs Expectations and Guidance; contributing to the 2027 Global State of Investor Climate Action report; supporting policy work related to the Investor Agenda; and facilitating communications between the UNEP FI Secretariat, Investor Agenda partners, UNEP FI members, and external stakeholders. The consultant will also be responsible for coordinating COP31 event logistics, updating the ICAPs Expectations Ladder and Guidance, and developing materials for annual events on investor transition plans and disclosures. The consultant will report to the Head of UNEP FI and work closely with the climate team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in international relations, business, event management, economics, or earth sciences. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree may be accepted if the candidate has at least 9 years of relevant experience. Additionally, candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with multicultural teams. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks across diverse projects are essential.
Educational Background: A master’s degree in relevant fields such as international relations, business, event management, economics, or earth sciences is required. A bachelor’s degree may be considered if accompanied by significant relevant experience, specifically 9 years in a related field.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of working experience in programme management, climate change, or economics. Experience in running climate programmes and prior engagement with COP31 processes will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory as it is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of Spanish and other United Nations languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with a broader range of stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is home-based, allowing for remote work. The expected duration of the consultancy is 5 months.
