Job Overview:
The Technical Advisor - Climate Displacement Risk Management role is pivotal in supporting governments, research institutions, and regional partners across Asia and the Pacific in enhancing climate displacement risk analysis. This position is integral to the IOM Climate Mobility Innovation Lab (CMIL), which focuses on climate displacement risk analytics, adaptation planning, and climate finance. The successful candidate will work closely with national research partners to develop methodologies for climate displacement risk, particularly in the context of slow-onset hazards and heat stress. The role involves translating evidence into actionable policies and planning processes, thereby strengthening institutional capacities and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to integrating climate displacement data into adaptation planning and disaster risk reduction frameworks, ultimately contributing to the resilience of communities facing climate-related challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Advisor will lead and support comprehensive climate displacement risk analyses at both macro and micro levels across priority countries. Responsibilities include collaborating with national research partners to produce and refine subnational risk profiles, contributing to the development of methodologies related to climate displacement risk, and providing technical advisory support to government ministries and technical working groups. The advisor will facilitate the integration of RICD outputs into Climate Catalytic Fund initiatives and Climate Mobility Investment Plans, ensuring that risk evidence informs practical investment priorities. Additionally, the role involves strengthening collaboration among governments, universities, regional organizations, and humanitarian actors through coordination and knowledge-sharing activities. The advisor will also organize and facilitate technical workshops, consultations, and stakeholder engagement processes, while supporting donor engagement and proposal development to advance innovation in climate mobility and displacement risk.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced academic background in relevant fields such as climate risk, disaster risk management, environmental science, geography, data science, or migration studies. They should have demonstrated experience in climate risk assessment, disaster risk analysis, and displacement analytics. A strong understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis is essential, along with experience in conducting quantitative analysis using socio-economic datasets. Proven experience in supporting government institutions or stakeholders in evidence-based planning and policy development is highly desirable, particularly within the Asia and Pacific regions. Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills are crucial for success in this role, as the advisor will work across diverse partnerships and institutional contexts.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced degree in a relevant discipline, such as climate risk, disaster risk management, environmental science, geography, data science, or migration studies. Candidates should have a strong academic foundation that supports their understanding of climate-related issues and their implications for displacement and risk management.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in climate risk assessment, disaster risk analysis, and displacement analytics. Languages:

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Bangkok, Thailand, with an initial contract duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The role requires travel across the region to engage with various stakeholders and partners.
