Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Head of the ESO Space Security Assurance Management Office include managing the full security accreditation and certification process for ESA's space programs, ensuring that all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted to relevant authorities. The role involves coordinating with program/project teams to develop tailored security strategies, conducting independent security analyses, and establishing accreditation plans. The Head will supervise the implementation of cybersecurity strategies, define annual audit plans, and maintain relationships with ESA Member States and EU institutions to ensure alignment in security processes. Additionally, the Head will be responsible for conducting audits, penetration tests, and reviewing security architectures to assess compliance with security requirements. The position also entails identifying and managing health and safety risks within the area of responsibility, ensuring that all security measures are in line with ESA's regulations and standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree in engineering or a related field, along with a minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor's degree and an additional four years of relevant experience may be considered. The role requires strong leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively. Candidates should demonstrate a strong results orientation, problem-solving skills, and the capacity to handle challenging situations proactively. Experience in managing diverse teams and international exposure is highly desirable, as is familiarity with ESA's internal processes and security frameworks.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in engineering is required for this position, with a focus on fields relevant to space security and risk management. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, combined with additional relevant experience, may also be considered. Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience in security risk management, security assurance, or related fields. Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have at least 16 years of experience. Familiarity with ESA's space programs and security accreditation processes will be a significant advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory, as these are the working languages of the Agency. A good knowledge of one of these languages is required, while proficiency in another language from an ESA Member State would be considered an asset. Additional Notes:
This position is a four-year appointment, which may be extended to an indefinite duration based on performance and organizational needs. The role is classified at Grade Band A4, indicating a senior level of responsibility within the organization. The successful candidate may be subject to mobility requirements, which could involve rotation to different locations within ESA after approximately five years in this role.
