Job Overview:
The position of Staff Assistant (2030 OPFOR Non-Linear Expert 1) is integral to the OPFOR team within the RIVAL Division at the JWC. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the representation of Hybrid (Non-Linear) Warfare across NATO's collective training and exercises. This role requires strong analytical and interpersonal skills, as the expert will contribute to the planning and delivery of strategic training that enhances NATO's operational effectiveness against sophisticated threats. The position emphasizes the importance of understanding the Hybrid Environment, which encompasses physical, virtual, and cognitive dimensions, and how these elements interact in modern warfare scenarios. The expert will lead the development of Hybrid Campaigns and ensure that NATO forces are adequately prepared for the complexities of contemporary conflict.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent's duties include providing subject-matter advice on non-linear warfare during the creation of scenario products for JWC-directed exercises and wargames. They will draft detailed schemes of manoeuvre for non-linear actors based on adversarial doctrine, particularly focusing on Russia. The expert will lead a team of non-linear warfare specialists during exercises, provide internal training to the OPFOR Branch, and maintain up-to-date knowledge through workshops and training events. Establishing a liaison network with other subject-matter experts within NATO Command Structure is also a key responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in non-linear warfare, with specific experience in Hybrid Warfare, Special Operation Warfare, and knowledge of Foreign INTEL Services, particularly regarding Russia. A deep understanding of Russian Doctrine related to Hybrid warfare and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security architecture is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in NATO exercise planning and a background in civil/military multinational environments. A valid NATO or National security clearance is preferred, especially for those who have held such clearances recently.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include higher secondary education with completed vocational training in relevant fields such as criminology, public administration, or political theory, along with three years of related experience. Alternatively, candidates with secondary education and advanced vocational training leading to professional accreditation, coupled with five years of post-related experience, will also be considered. A master's degree in a social science is desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have previous experience as a staff officer at the 2-star (Division Level) or higher within NATO or equivalent national civilian intelligence backgrounds. A minimum of three years of functional experience representing Russian non-linear warfare tactics and operational experience in leading teams focused on countering hybrid threats is required. This experience should ideally include work in a red team or opposing forces team.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English at an upper-intermediate level. Knowledge of Russian is also highly desirable, with a proficiency level of SLP 2222 (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) being preferred. This role may involve research in Russian documents and literature, making proficiency in the language beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This position is a project-linked NATO International Civilian post with a definite duration of three years. The successful applicant will receive a monthly salary of NOK 75,465.00, which is tax-free, with additional allowances based on personal circumstances.
