Job Overview:
The Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) plays a crucial role in supporting the operational aspects of migration management. Under the general supervision of the Senior Data Processing and Movement Associate and direct supervision of the Movement Operations Associate, the assistant is responsible for undertaking field support activities in various settings, including airports, transit centers, and third-party facilities. The position requires a proactive approach to assist individuals during their travel and stay, ensuring their safety, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and comfort. The assistant will engage in various tasks, such as verifying travel documentation, assisting with airport formalities, and providing support to vulnerable individuals. The role demands effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and adherence to IOM's standards and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) include:
  • Undertaking field support activities in assigned areas, such as airports, transit centers, and camps.
  • Performing airport services, including verifying identities and documentation, assisting with check-in and luggage formalities, and ensuring compliance with immigration procedures.
  • Providing assistance to individuals at transit centers, including orientation, food distribution, and room assignments.
  • Entering and updating data in relevant systems while ensuring the safety and comfort of vulnerable individuals.
  • Coordinating transportation logistics, including liaising with service providers and ensuring proper identity verification.
  • Assisting with baggage handling and escorting individuals as needed.
  • Providing support for selection missions and exit permits, including interpretation services.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and integrity of paperwork in line with IOM's standards.
  • Reporting any issues to supervisors and participating in duty travel as required. 1

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Movement Operations Assistant (Field Support) position include:
  • A high school diploma with at least 4 years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, International Relations, or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in Movement Operations or transportation is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer software, particularly Microsoft Office, is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration and assistance.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills are critical for managing tasks efficiently.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Science or International Relations from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 4 years of work experience with a high school diploma or 2 years with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Prior experience in Movement Operations or transportation is strongly preferred, indicating that candidates should have a solid understanding of the operational aspects of migration management and the ability to work effectively in dynamic environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is required for all IOM staff members, as these are the organization's official languages. Additionally, working knowledge of Arabic is considered an advantage, enhancing communication with diverse populations. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary language requirements.

Additional Notes:
The position may involve extended hours, including overnight shifts and weekends, as the assistant will be required to provide support for up to 12 hours at transit centers or third-party facilities. The role is subject to funding confirmation, and any offer made to the candidate will depend on this condition. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
