Job Overview:
The National Human Rights Intern position is designed for individuals who are passionate about human rights and wish to gain practical experience in the field. Under the supervision of a designated Human Rights Officer, the intern will be involved in various activities that support the OHCHR's mission in the Pacific region. The role encompasses communications and advocacy, research and documentation, meeting and event support, and other duties as assigned. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic communication initiatives, conduct research on pressing human rights issues, and assist in organizing events that promote human rights awareness. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting with internal and external communications activities, supporting the development of communication tools and advocacy materials, contributing to strategic communication initiatives, conducting research on human rights issues relevant to the Pacific region, preparing reports and analytical documents, responding to information requests regarding human rights situations, recording and preparing minutes of meetings, organizing conferences and workshops, and performing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The intern will also support logistical and administrative arrangements for office activities, ensuring smooth operations within the OHCHR.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a Master's degree programme or equivalent graduate-level programme; be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor's degree programme; or have recently graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent university degree. Preferred fields of study include Law, Human Rights, Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies, or other related disciplines. The ideal candidate should possess excellent research and analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within multicultural teams. Good organizational and administrative skills are also essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital communication platforms.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in fields related to human rights, law, political science, international relations, public policy, or development studies. Enrollment in a Master's degree programme or being in the final year of a Bachelor's degree programme is required. Recent graduates with relevant degrees are also eligible to apply, making this position suitable for a range of educational backgrounds that align with the mission of the OHCHR.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in human rights issues and a commitment to the values of the United Nations. Experience in research, advocacy, or communications within a relevant context will be advantageous. Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the United Nations. Knowledge of Fijian (iTaukei) and/or Fiji Hindi is considered desirable, as it may enhance the intern's ability to engage with local communities and stakeholders effectively.
