The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer and will collaborate with colleagues across the Executive Office of the IIMP. The role involves supporting the development and dissemination of public information products and communication activities that align with the IIMP's mandate and priorities. Interns will engage in various tasks that enhance their understanding of public information strategies and the importance of effective communication in humanitarian contexts. This position is ideal for those interested in gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic and impactful environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the IIMP's public information efforts. Key duties include: (1) Assisting in the drafting, editing, and publishing of content for the IIMP's social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and LinkedIn; (2) Creating visual and multimedia content, such as graphics, short videos, captions, and photo-editing materials; (3) Drafting social media posts, website updates, and other communication materials in English and/or Arabic; (4) Supporting the coverage of events, meetings, and outreach activities through photography, videography, and preparation of social media updates; (5) Maintaining content calendars and organizing, archiving, and managing photographs, videos, and other communication materials; (6) Supporting other public information and communication activities as required. The intern is expected to demonstrate professionalism, creativity, and discretion in all tasks, complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner, and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship. Experience in managing social media platforms and creating digital communication content is desirable, as well as skills in graphic design, photography, videography, or the use of content creation tools.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a relevant educational background that aligns with the internship's focus on public information and communication. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme or the final year of a bachelor's degree. The educational qualifications should ideally be in fields such as communications, media studies, international relations, or a related discipline that supports the responsibilities of the internship.
Experience: While the internship does not require prior professional work experience, it is beneficial for candidates to have some familiarity with social media management and digital content creation. Experience in graphic design, photography, and videography will enhance a candidate's application, as these skills are valuable for the tasks involved in the internship.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Additional Notes: This internship is an in-person, full-time position expected to last between 3 to 6 months.
