Job Overview:
The Junior Urban Resilience and Stakeholder Engagement Consultant will provide technical expertise in urban planning and design, particularly focusing on water, climate resilience, and stakeholder engagement. The consultant will work closely with the Urban Lab team, under the supervision of the Urban Lab Coordinators and the Chief of the Regional Advisory & Projects Support Section. The role involves conducting research, data gathering, and assessments related to urban policies and strategies, as well as providing technical support for various Urban Lab projects. The consultant will also be responsible for developing training materials, facilitating workshops, and engaging with stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation. This position is crucial for advancing the goals of sustainable urban development and achieving the objectives outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: conducting reviews and assessments on urban planning policies; providing technical support for Urban Lab projects; developing presentations and training materials; organizing participatory processes tailored to specific project contexts; contributing to Urban Lab documents and publications; supporting the development of country proposals and fundraising strategies; and managing stakeholder engagement processes. The consultant will represent UN-Habitat and is expected to maintain high standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity while interacting with various stakeholders involved in the projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Urban Development and Planning, Environmental Management, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Relevant work experience in sustainable urban development, urban planning, or related fields is essential, particularly with a focus on integrating water, climate resilience, and urban systems. Experience in organizing workshops and facilitating stakeholder meetings is also required, along with proven experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields related to urban development, planning, or environmental management. A first-level university degree may be considered if accompanied by sufficient relevant experience. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of urban systems and the integration of climate resilience into urban planning.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant work experience in sustainable urban development or urban planning, with a specific focus on water and climate resilience. Experience in organizing and facilitating workshops, training sessions, and stakeholder meetings is required. Familiarity with participatory processes and stakeholder engagement methodologies is an asset, as is experience working with international development agencies and the United Nations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the UN system and with various stakeholders.
