Job Overview:
The MEAL Assistant position is crucial for supporting the implementation and enhancement of monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) systems within Relief International. Under the supervision of the MEAL Officer, the MEAL Assistant will engage in various activities including field monitoring, conducting surveys, validating and cleaning data, tracking indicators, and facilitating data-reflection and lessons-learned exercises. The role emphasizes the importance of timely collection, documentation, and archiving of high-quality quantitative and qualitative data, ensuring that all processes adhere to established MEAL procedures. The MEAL Assistant will also play a vital role in representing RI during interactions with beneficiaries, communities, and partners, thereby contributing to the overall accountability and effectiveness of the organization's programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MEAL Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties including:
  • Supporting the implementation of assigned MEAL activities under the guidance of the MEAL Officer, ensuring accurate data collection, entry, verification, and reporting within set deadlines.
  • Identifying and resolving routine data-quality issues and documentation challenges by applying established MEAL procedures.
  • Assisting in the adaptation and implementation of MEAL tools such as monitoring checklists, surveys, and validation forms.
  • Conducting routine monitoring visits to various project sites and documenting findings, gaps, and beneficiary feedback.
  • Supporting the execution of surveys and assessments, including patient-exit surveys and post-distribution monitoring.
  • Updating indicator-tracking tools and databases, compiling data from various activities, and assisting in preparing reports.
  • Supporting the Accountability and Safeguarding team in maintaining feedback and complaints mechanisms.
  • Collecting and archiving project means of verification in compliance with RI's data protection requirements.
  • Ensuring that all behavior aligns with RI’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies, promoting a respectful and inclusive work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the MEAL Assistant position should possess a strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles, as well as experience in data collection and analysis. They should demonstrate proficiency in using various MEAL tools and methodologies. Additionally, candidates must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with data management software and databases is also essential. Candidates should exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, statistics, public health, or a related discipline is required for the MEAL Assistant position. Additional certifications or training in monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, or related areas will be considered an asset.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 1-2 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, data collection, or a related field. Experience working in humanitarian or development settings is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully implementing MEAL activities and working with diverse teams.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and local stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is necessary for reporting and documentation purposes. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region would be considered a valuable asset.

This position is part-time and is intended for national applicants. The MEAL Assistant will be expected to work closely with the MEAL Officer and other team members to ensure the successful implementation of MEAL activities.
