Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies or interests. Interns will gain exposure to the operations of the IAEA and the broader United Nations system. The internship is particularly focused on enhancing the IAEA's programs by leveraging the skills and knowledge of qualified students who specialize in various professional fields. Interns will be involved in significant projects, such as the preparation for the Fourth FAO/IAEA International Symposium on Area-wide Management of Insect Pests, which will take place at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna. This role will require the intern to engage in various tasks related to the symposium, including managing abstract submissions and maintaining databases, which are critical for the successful organization of the event.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: communicating with symposium participants regarding abstract submissions, acceptance, and other related queries; assisting in the review of abstracts and maintaining an abstract database using the IAEA's INDICO system; formatting and organizing the book of abstracts; collaborating with the Programme Committee to organize symposium sessions; compiling, editing, and formatting contributed papers; ensuring that all chapters of the symposium book adhere to the guidelines set by the external publisher; and coordinating the editing and review process by liaising with authors, internal editors, and external reviewers. The intern may also assist with additional editing tasks within the Insect Pest Control Section and the FAO/IAEA Agriculture and Biotechnology Laboratories.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information Management, Communications, or a related field. They should have experience in using data management systems and demonstrate excellent computer skills in standard applications necessary for word processing and data analysis. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential, along with knowledge of correspondence and written communication. Candidates should exhibit strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as experience in editing and formatting technical documents.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be at least 20 years of age and to have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. Candidates may apply for the internship up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important to note that candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.

Experience:
The level of experience required for this internship includes familiarity with data management systems and proficiency in standard computer applications. Candidates should have experience in editing and formatting technical documents, which is crucial for the tasks they will undertake during the internship. Additionally, strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders are essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the IAEA. While proficiency in any other IAEA official language—such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian—is considered an asset, it is not a requirement for the position. Good written and spoken English skills are essential for the intern to effectively engage with symposium participants and contribute to the preparation of documents.
