Job Overview:
The Senior Strategy Officer (SSO) for the Exemplars in Global Health (EGH) team plays a crucial role in providing programmatic strategy leadership. This position is focused on shaping the strategic direction of EGH, which involves leading initiative-level strategy development, defining and prioritizing Bodies of Work (BoWs), and preparing engagement materials for senior decision-makers within the foundation. The SSO will collaborate closely with EGH leadership, Program Strategy Teams (PSTs), and Regional and Country Offices (RCOs), requiring the ability to operate at a strategic level while translating these strategies into actionable plans. The role reports to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director for Strategy, Planning, and Management (DDSPM) in EGH, and may involve international travel up to 20-25% depending on project needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Strategy Officer will lead the iterative definition and refinement of EGH’s program strategy, adapting to changes in the environment and lessons learned from investments and research. The officer will develop initiative-level strategies and BoWs in partnership with EGH leadership, ensuring they are analytically rigorous and aligned with foundation goals. The role includes leading collaborative processes to create materials for portfolio reviews, strategy reviews, and annual planning, synthesizing complex evidence into clear recommendations. The SSO will scope and lead critical initiatives, provide thought partnership to EGH leadership, identify cross-cutting opportunities, and support high-priority external partnerships. Building internal networks to surface decision-maker needs and translating EGH’s evidence into actionable insights for foundation leadership and partners is also a key responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, including dual experience in leading strategy projects at a consulting/advisory firm and implementation experience in the private or non-profit sector. A preference for 5+ years in senior strategic-planning functions is noted. Proven strengths in structured problem-solving and strategic business planning are essential, along with strong quantitative and financial fluency. The ability to convey complex information clearly and to bring new frameworks to the strategy-development process is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders, and a deep knowledge of project and partner management.

Educational Background:
An MBA, MPH, PhD, or other advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience may also be considered. Candidates should have a strong educational background that supports their ability to engage in complex strategic planning and analysis.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have held senior strategic planning roles. Experience in both consulting and implementation within the non-profit or private sectors is highly valued. Familiarity with global health and development issues, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, is advantageous.

Languages:
While no specific languages are mandated, proficiency in languages relevant to global health and development contexts is beneficial. Strong communication skills in English are essential for this role, given the international scope of the work.

The salary range for this role is between $190,100 to $294,700 USD, with higher ranges for positions in Seattle and Washington D.C. The foundation aims to balance competitive pay with its mission-driven goals, and new hires typically fall between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
