Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director for Business Development and Licensing (BDL) will play a crucial role in supporting the foundation's goals by identifying and evaluating strategic business partners and licensing opportunities that align with its charitable mission. This position involves coordinating and negotiating access to key assets and opportunities with both new and existing partners. The Deputy Director will work closely with program teams and subject matter experts to develop agreement structures that account for the technical risks associated with innovation projects. The role requires a strong focus on partnerships with for-profit biopharma companies to advance global health initiatives. The Deputy Director will help structure and co-lead agreement transactions that take innovative global health assets, including drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics, from early concept stages through to commercialization, ensuring that these products reach underserved populations in target geographies. The position also involves leveraging biopharma experience to support private-sector engagement strategies that align with the foundation's functional strategy, which includes global access and licensing of products, platform technologies, and services. The Deputy Director will evolve the foundation's global access terms, focusing on affordability, access, sustainability, and pricing to achieve program goals. Additionally, the role includes conducting due diligence on potential partners, negotiating agreement terms, and presenting recommendations to executive leadership, while establishing collaborative relationships with key internal functions to ensure effective transactional representation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: structuring and co-leading agreement transactions with Program Strategy Teams (PSTs) to advance innovative global health assets; leveraging biopharma experience to support all aspects of private-sector engagement strategies; evolving global access terms; acting as the point of contact for agreement transaction teams; conducting due diligence on potential partners; negotiating agreement terms; gaining internal alignment and support; presenting recommendations to executive leadership; establishing collaborative relationships with internal functions; facilitating opportunity assessments and due diligence reviews; leading partner review and developing agreement recommendation documents; evaluating commercial prospects and strategies; managing multiple business opportunities across PSTs; driving decision-making with diverse stakeholders; participating in the development of business capabilities and processes; and supporting PSTs in developing relationships with biopharma companies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 15 years of experience in the biopharma industry, with extensive experience in executing complex agreements across multiple therapeutic areas and modalities with multinational companies. A bachelor's degree is required, along with at least 10 years of demonstrated experience; an advanced degree such as an MBA or PhD is preferred. Experience in various functional areas within a multinational biopharma company is highly desirable, including business development, product development, marketing, and commercialization. A significant track record of leading and negotiating successful technology-related transactions is essential, as is experience negotiating with multinational corporations and companies in low- and middle-income countries. Candidates should also have experience leading cross-functional business development teams and previous work related to global health initiatives.

Educational Background:
The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree, with a preference for candidates holding an advanced degree such as an MBA or PhD. The educational background should ideally include studies related to business, health sciences, or a relevant field that supports the functions of the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 15 years of experience in the biopharma industry, with a strong emphasis on executing complex agreements and partnerships. Experience in various functional areas within a multinational biopharma company is preferred, as well as a proven track record of leading successful negotiations and transactions.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
This position reports directly to the Foundation’s BD&L Lead / Program Chief Financial Officer for Global Health. The salary range for this role is between $238,400 to $369,400 USD, with higher ranges for positions in Seattle and Washington D.C. New hire salaries typically fall between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on job-related skills and experience.
