Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will play a vital role in supporting the Capacity Development team within the Human Resources Section of UNV. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the implementation of communication strategies that enhance the visibility and effectiveness of UN Volunteer learning activities. The intern will collaborate with the capacity development team to execute comprehensive communication strategies, create engaging content, and maintain communication channels that promote UNV learning programs. The role also involves outreach initiatives to inform stakeholders about learning opportunities, managing social media communications, and analyzing engagement metrics to improve outreach effectiveness. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of the UNV programme and contribute to global learning initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Collaborating with the capacity development team to implement communication strategies that enhance the visibility of UN Volunteer learning activities.
Creating and maintaining engaging communication materials, such as graphics and presentations, to effectively convey the benefits of UNV learning programs.
Organizing outreach initiatives to inform stakeholders about learning opportunities, including developing newsletters, flyers, and learning kits.
Maintaining up-to-date information on the UNV eCampus platform.
Implementing tracking mechanisms to monitor the impact of communication efforts and preparing reports on their effectiveness.
Engaging with stakeholders and the UNV volunteer community to gather feedback and foster collaboration.
Managing communication through social media and WhatsApp channels to enhance engagement with volunteers and stakeholders.
Analyzing engagement metrics to identify trends and support continuous improvement of communication efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly. Outstanding organizational skills are essential to ensure deliverables are prioritized and deadlines are met. The ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment is crucial, as is the capacity for problem-solving and analytical thinking. Proficiency in IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office suite, is required, along with knowledge of design software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Familiarity with social media and digital media trends is also desirable.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations, International Development, or a related field. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, have recently graduated with a relevant degree, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program.
Experience: Experience in creating and disseminating communication materials, managing social media accounts, or supporting communication campaigns is preferred. Familiarity with graphic design and multimedia content creation is advantageous, as is experience in organizing events, workshops, or webinars. Candidates should also have experience in writing for various platforms and engaging with audiences through content calendars and social media analytics.
Languages: Proficiency in English is required, with the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms. Knowledge of one or more of the other five official languages of the UN (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is highly desirable.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, but interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with UNDP policies. Interns are responsible for their own medical and life insurance, and all expenses related to the internship will be borne by the intern or their sponsoring institution. The internship is not intended to lead to further employment within the UN System, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
