Job Overview:
The NATO Analyst - Strategic Trends position is integral to the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (SPP) within NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT). The role involves conducting strategic foresight and operational framing to identify trends that may impact the security environment of NATO member states. The incumbent will focus on analyzing political, economic, and technological trends, particularly with a focus on Russia. This position requires the ability to synthesize complex information and provide strategic insights that inform NATO's military and political leadership. The analyst will engage in horizon scanning, lead workshops, and support various strategic foresight activities, contributing to the development of policies and strategies that enhance NATO's defense posture.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the NATO Analyst - Strategic Trends include conducting horizon scanning to identify key trends in politics, technology, economics, and the environment. The analyst will perform strategic trend analysis to forecast future security environments and their implications for NATO. Responsibilities also include leading and supporting strategic foresight analysis activities, conducting analyses of NATO engagements, and researching relevant political and military issues. The analyst will build relationships with various stakeholders, prepare detailed reports and presentations, and manage individual projects. Additionally, the role requires the ability to communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior military and civilian officials.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as history, politics, economics, or international relations, along with at least two years of related experience. Alternatively, candidates with higher secondary education and advanced vocational training leading to professional accreditation may qualify with four years of relevant experience. A strong background in policy development, future studies, and analysis is essential, along with high-level organizational and communication skills. The ability to summarize complex information and work effectively in a multi-national environment is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in disciplines such as history, geography, politics, economics, operations research, international relations, sociology, or future studies. A postgraduate degree in relevant fields is desirable and may enhance a candidate's profile. Candidates should have a solid understanding of research methodologies and analytical practices relevant to strategic foresight and military implications.

Experience:
The position requires 4-6 years of experience in policy or doctrine development, future studies, or strategic analysis. Experience working within NATO or in a multi-national/multi-ethnic environment is highly valued. Familiarity with large military headquarters or international organizations is beneficial, as is experience in strategic foresight analysis and the use of artificial intelligence in developing foresight products.

Languages:

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a NATO SECRET Security Clearance prior to employment. The contract offered will be in accordance with NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations, with newly recruited staff receiving a three-year definite duration contract.
