Job Overview:
The WIPO Internship Program is designed to provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical experience in an international context while contributing to the organization's mission. Interns will engage in various projects that align with their academic background and professional interests, allowing them to develop essential skills and knowledge in the field of intellectual property. The program is open to individuals pursuing or who have recently completed university degrees, and it aims to enhance their educational experience through hands-on involvement in WIPO's initiatives. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals, gaining insights into the workings of an international organization and the role of intellectual property in fostering innovation and creativity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be assigned specific tasks and responsibilities based on the needs of the Hiring Office. These may include conducting research, assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations, participating in meetings, and supporting various projects related to intellectual property law, economics, technology, and administration. Interns are expected to demonstrate initiative, contribute fresh ideas, and collaborate effectively with team members. The exact terms of reference will be outlined for each internship position, ensuring that interns have a clear understanding of their roles and contributions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be pursuing or have obtained a university degree. For those pursuing a first-level university degree, they should be in their third or fourth year of study or in a program that requires an internship as part of their degree. Graduates are eligible to apply within two years of completing their most recent degree. Additionally, candidates should possess strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to new systems and software are also essential.

Educational Background:
The internship program is open to individuals pursuing a first-level university degree, advanced university degrees, or those who have recently graduated. Candidates must be in a relevant field of study that aligns with the internship opportunities available at WIPO. For Category I internships, candidates should be in their third or fourth year of study, while Category II candidates should have completed their coursework but not their final thesis. This structure ensures that interns have the necessary academic foundation to contribute meaningfully to WIPO's work.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in intellectual property and related fields. Experience in research, project management, or relevant academic coursework will be advantageous. Interns are expected to bring a fresh perspective and knowledge of the latest developments in their areas of expertise, which will enhance their contributions to the organization.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English and/or French is required for most internships, with excellent drafting skills in English being particularly important. Knowledge of additional WIPO working languages such as Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration within the diverse international environment at WIPO.

Additional Notes:
Interns are expected to work full-time and must cover their own travel and subsistence expenses. However, interns from developing or least developed countries may be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses up to a maximum of 1,500 Swiss francs. The internship does not guarantee future employment with WIPO, and any subsequent employment will be subject to the organization's recruitment procedures. Internships cannot be conducted remotely, and candidates are required to submit a cover letter or letter of motivation with their application.
