Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP) is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in the field of transnational organized crime, particularly focusing on illicit trafficking. The intern will work remotely and is expected to contribute to various aspects of the PCCP, which aims to enhance the capacity of customs and law enforcement agencies to combat illegal shipments and high-risk passengers. The intern will engage in research, assist in drafting documents, and support the PCCP team in various administrative tasks. This role is crucial in helping to develop strategies and operational frameworks that address the challenges posed by illicit trafficking and organized crime. The intern will gain valuable insights into the workings of the United Nations and the complexities of international law enforcement collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting research on transnational organized crime and illicit trafficking; assisting in the drafting of concept notes and background documents; supporting the PCCP team with desk work, including fact-checking, editing, and proofreading; preparing training and promotional materials; managing social media content and website updates; and ensuring the efficient organization of data and files. The intern may also be assigned additional duties as required, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the PCCP and its initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, possess an academic background in political science, international relations, security studies, criminal justice, or a related discipline, and demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds are also essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or have recently completed such programs. A field of study closely related to the internship is required, ensuring that the intern has the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the PCCP.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study that aligns closely with the responsibilities of the internship. This ensures that the intern possesses relevant knowledge and skills that can be applied during their time with the PCCP.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is advantageous. Familiarity with Ukrainian is also considered a plus, given the context of the internship.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to work full-time, five days a week, for a duration of six months. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. It is important for non-citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken to obtain the necessary visa and work authorization.
