Job Overview: The Engineering Assistant position is located within the Engineering and Facilities Management unit of the Mission Support Service at UNSMIL. The incumbent will also be responsible for advanced planning and organizing of work, preparing design and cost estimates, coordinating with engineering counterparts, providing training to junior assistants, and ensuring compliance with environmental and waste management policies. Additionally, the Engineering Assistant will monitor the quality of materials and equipment used in maintenance activities and perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a Trade and Craft Certification in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, or a related trade. The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in construction, commissioning, or operations and maintenance within the specific trade areas. For candidates with a first-level university degree or higher, the minimum experience requirement is reduced to five years. Experience with AutoCAD for developing technical drawings, as well as experience in developing Schedule of Rates (SORs) and Scope of Works (SOW) for engineering goods and services, is desirable. Experience working in UN or international organizations in the engineering field is also preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent.
