Job Overview: The Event Coordination and Communications Support Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the GMCP Indian Ocean East team based in Male, Maldives. This position involves effective communication and liaison with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the smooth flow of information through regular updates, newsletters, reports, and other written outputs. The assistant will contribute to the preparation of various documents related to maritime crime issues, support research efforts, and provide logistical assistance for meetings, workshops, and training sessions. The role also includes coordinating nominations for UNODC events and assisting with procurement processes, ensuring compliance with UN financial regulations. The assistant will be expected to engage with communities and promote volunteerism as part of their assignment, contributing to the overall mission of UNODC.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will undertake a variety of tasks, including: assisting the GMCP Indian Ocean East team in effective communications; preparing and circulating updates, newsletters, and reports; drafting background papers, briefing notes, and analytical documents; supporting research on maritime crime; providing logistical support for meetings and events; coordinating participant nominations for UNODC events; assisting with procurement processes; and performing any other duties as assigned. Additionally, the assistant will be encouraged to engage in volunteerism activities, strengthen their understanding of volunteerism, and contribute to UNV publications and initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate professionalism and teamwork. The ability to plan and organize effectively, prioritize tasks, and work under tight deadlines is essential. The ideal candidate should be adaptable, culturally sensitive, and able to work collaboratively with diverse teams. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to the values of the United Nations are also required.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is essential for this position. Candidates should have a degree in communications, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. Additional training or certifications in event management or project coordination would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in event coordination, communications, or project support, preferably within an international organization or non-governmental organization. Experience working in a multicultural environment and familiarity with UN operations would be beneficial. The role requires a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages or other UN languages would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Male, Maldives. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role is expected to be full-time, and the volunteer will receive a monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA) of MVR 2926.5, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 5
Volunteers are entitled to 1.25 days of annual leave per month and comprehensive insurance coverage for health, life, and malicious acts. The UN Volunteer will also have access to learning and career development resources provided by UNV.
