Job Overview: The Livelihood Specialist position at WRI Indonesia is crucial for supporting the government, private sector, and communities in Indonesia to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through improved forest and land use management. The role involves providing technical and operational expertise in livelihood and economic analysis, particularly in priority provinces such as South Sumatera and Aceh. The Livelihood Specialist will assist local governments in implementing sustainable landscape governance and will be responsible for managing projects related to social forestry and customary forest schemes. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including local authorities and civil society, to develop sustainable livelihood options and strategies for communities. The Livelihood Specialist will also contribute to the development of business plans and facilitate capacity-building programs for local communities and organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Livelihood Specialist will have a diverse set of responsibilities, primarily focused on research and technical work (70%) and project management and communication (30%). Key duties include: conducting livelihood assessments to identify sustainable options for communities, designing community livelihood development strategies aligned with government plans, developing business plans for communities, supporting stakeholder engagement and project coordination, conducting capacity strengthening programs, and maintaining the Social Forestry Database Management System. Additionally, the Specialist will develop work plans and budgets for research activities, maintain communication with stakeholders, assist in organizing project reviews, and facilitate workshops and training sessions. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support WRI Indonesia's programs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be legally able to work in Indonesia and possess a Master's degree in relevant fields such as economics, agrobusiness, environmental policy, or sustainable development. A minimum of five years of experience in community facilitation, entrepreneurship, and project management related to land and natural resource management is required. Candidates should have a good understanding of geospatial and remote sensing, experience in stakeholder mapping, and familiarity with WRI's Social Landscape assessment framework. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory, with strong communication and writing skills preferred.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master's degree in fields such as economy, agrobusiness, agronomy, environmental policy/law, natural resource study, sustainable development, or a related discipline. A background in forestry, natural resource management, or small and medium business management is also acceptable. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of livelihood development and environmental management in the context of Indonesia's social forestry initiatives.
Experience: The Livelihood Specialist should have at least five years of progressive professional experience in community empowerment, small and medium business entrepreneurship, and market analysis. Experience in land, environmental, or natural resource management, along with relevant program implementation and project management experience, is essential. Candidates should also have significant fieldwork experience and a proven track record of building capacity among civil society groups and other stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess strong communication skills in both languages, as effective interaction with diverse stakeholders is crucial for the role. Additional language skills may be considered an advantage but are not required.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position with a fixed-term employment agreement for one year, including a three-month consultancy period before the fixed-term agreement begins.
