Job Overview: The National UN Volunteer will be an integral part of the UNFPA Bangladesh Country Office Gender Unit, specifically supporting the 'Inclusive Services and Opportunities (ISO) for Human Capital Development and Livelihood' project. This project is led by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA) and aims to address the pressing issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the Chattogram Division, which has been identified as having elevated risks of intimate partner violence. The volunteer will serve as a key focal point for the project, providing high-quality technical support to MoWCA and coordinating closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of GBV response services. The role requires extensive travel across the Chattogram Division, and the volunteer will report directly to the GBV Programme Specialist and Chief of Gender, while also collaborating with facility-based staff to enhance the quality of GBV services provided to survivors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National UN Volunteer will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Technical Support and Programme Implementation: - Preparing work plans and budgets in collaboration with NGO implementing partners and the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) at MoWCA. - Supporting the day-to-day implementation of the ISO project interventions in collaboration with the Cox’s Bazar GBViE team and NGO partners. - Providing technical support and guidance to NGO partners to maintain the quality of project deliverables. - Coordinating the implementation of GBV referral pathways in the Chattogram Division. - Liaising with NGO partners to ensure the deployment of human resources to GBV response facilities. - Supporting the National Programme Officer for implementing GBV projects with the Department of Women Affairs.
Capacity Development and Training Facilitation: - Planning and organizing capacity-building training for staff at facilities such as One Stop Crisis Centres and Regional Trauma Centres. - Assisting in the adaptation and rollout of training modules in line with international standards. - Administering assessments to evaluate training effectiveness. - Providing technical support in the adaptation of SOPs and guidance notes for GBV case management.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting: - Preparing regular project progress reports for the government and donors. - Maintaining progress trackers for capacity-building activities. - Conducting field visits to project sites and drafting recommendations for improvement. - Assisting the Communications team in identifying success stories and visibility materials.
Other Responsibilities: - Performing any other relevant activities as assigned by the Chief of Unit, Deputy Representative, or Representative.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong technical skills in gender-based violence programming and a solid understanding of the socio-cultural context of Bangladesh. They should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in project management and monitoring and evaluation practices is essential. The ideal candidate should also exhibit strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, along with a commitment to accountability and professionalism in their work.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, public health, gender studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees in these areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of gender issues and reproductive health.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in gender-based violence programming, project management, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of humanitarian response or development projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local context in Bangladesh, especially regarding gender issues and community dynamics, will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Bengali is mandatory, as it is the official language of Bangladesh. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UN agencies. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region may be considered an advantage.
