Job Overview:
The Chinese Language Workflow Coordinator position is situated within the Interpretation team of the Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The incumbent will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of Chinese-language resources across FAO’s multilingual communication framework. This position requires a blend of linguistic expertise and coordination skills to facilitate effective delivery of multilingual services. The coordinator will be responsible for advising on terminology management, language consistency, meeting preparation, and workflow coordination. The role involves liaising with various FAO teams, translators, interpreters, subject-matter specialists, and external stakeholders to promote clear communication and adherence to established quality standards. The incumbent will also contribute to the continuous improvement of translation and interpretation processes through knowledge sharing, feedback, and quality assurance activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will oversee and provide expert guidance on quality assurance processes for the translation of official FAO documents from English into Chinese. This includes ensuring that all translated outputs meet the Organization’s standards for linguistic accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to FAO terminology and style requirements. The coordinator will provide strategic support and technical input in planning, coordinating, and monitoring Chinese translation workflows, ensuring alignment with FAO quality standards, terminology policies, and document management procedures. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate and monitor the delivery and quality of external translation assignments into Chinese, undertake other language-related tasks, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Chinese translation services within the FAO multilingual framework. The role also involves providing expert support for the planning, organization, and coordination of interpretation services for FAO meetings and conferences, ensuring effective preparation and smooth delivery of language services. The coordinator will be responsible for providing high-quality simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from English into Chinese for high-level FAO meetings, preparing post-meeting reports, and providing feedback on interpretation assignments. Furthermore, the incumbent will offer professional linguistic and terminological guidance to interpreters, translators, revisers, and terminologists in the identification, development, and validation of new terminology, ensuring consistency and accuracy across FAO multilingual outputs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in interpreting, translation, or terminology from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO. Alternatively, a first-level degree combined with two years of relevant experience may be considered. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in interpreting, translation, or terminology. A Chinese mother tongue and excellent working knowledge (level C) of English are mandatory, while knowledge of another FAO language is considered an asset. Candidates will be assessed against FAO core competencies, which include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in interpreting, translation, or terminology from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO. In cases where candidates hold a first-level degree, they must also have two years of relevant experience to be considered eligible for the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in interpreting, translation, or terminology. This experience is crucial for ensuring that the incumbent can effectively manage the linguistic and terminological aspects of the role and contribute to the quality of FAO's multilingual communication.

Languages:
