Job Overview: The Social MediaIntern position is designed to provide support to the Office of the Assistant Secretary General (OASG) within the IIIM. The intern will play a crucial role in managing the IIIM’s social media presence, which is vital for promoting the organization’s work and engaging with the public. The intern will report directly to the Associate Public Information Officer and will be involved in various aspects of digital communications. This includes creating and scheduling content that aligns with the IIIM’s strategic priorities, monitoring social media trends, and evaluating the impact of digital outreach efforts. Duties and Responsibilities: The Social Media Intern will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing the IIIM’s social media accounts across platforms such as LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and WhatsApp; scheduling and preparing content that reflects the organization’s campaigns and events; drafting social media posts for review and approval; developing multimedia content including graphics and videos; conducting daily monitoring of social media channels and summarizing relevant trends; promoting events and reports through digital channels; measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of outreach activities; preparing analytics reports that highlight key performance indicators; and performing other related tasks as assigned to support the OASG and IIIM’s objectives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, candidates should have a field of study closely related to the internship, such as Communications, Marketing, International Relations, or Development Studies. Familiarity with social media platforms and content formats is essential, along with experience using content creation tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of social media management tools, such as Hootsuite, is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in fields relevant to the internship, such as Communications, Marketing, International Relations, or Development Studies. A graduate degree or a bachelor's degree nearing completion is preferred, ensuring that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge to contribute effectively to the IIIM’s communications efforts.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required, candidates should demonstrate familiarity with social media platforms and content creation tools. Experience in managing social media accounts or creating digital content is advantageous and will enhance the candidate's ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the internship effectively.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required for the internship, as these are essential for effective communication within the organization. Knowledge of French, which is one of the working languages of the United Nations, is also beneficial. Proficiency in any additional official UN language would be considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, with regular working hours from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The expected duration of the internship is between 3 to 6 months, starting in September 2026, with flexibility in start dates and duration based on discussions with the selected candidate. Interns are responsible for all related expenses, including travel, accommodation, and living costs. They must also secure adequate insurance coverage and may need to obtain a visa for their stay in Switzerland.
