Job Overview:
The Driver position at NRC is crucial for ensuring the safe transportation of personnel and cargo to designated locations. The role requires adherence to traffic regulations and a commitment to safe driving practices. The Driver is expected to maintain the vehicle in good condition, perform minor repairs, and ensure that all necessary documentation is up to date. The Driver must be proactive in reporting any issues related to the vehicle and must keep accurate records of trips and maintenance activities. The role is integral to the smooth operation of NRC's activities in Rakhine State, where the context can be complex and challenging.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe transportation of NRC personnel and cargo to requested destinations.
  • Adhere strictly to traffic rules and speed limits, driving in a safe and considerate manner.
  • Report accidents and follow required procedures, including completing accident report forms.
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform daily checks on the vehicle, ensuring it is in safe running condition.
  • Check oil levels, water levels, battery, brakes, and tyres, and ensure the vehicle is equipped with a first aid kit and necessary tools.
  • Report any missing tools or equipment promptly in writing.
  • Perform minor repairs and report major repair needs to the Logistics Assistant or Officer.
  • Fill in the logbook for all trips and ensure other drivers do the same.
  • Ensure fuel tanks are filled appropriately and record fuel amounts in the logbook. 1
  • Keep all required licenses, insurance cards, and vehicle permits valid and available in the vehicle. 1
  • Follow the NRC Drivers’ Manual and Checklist instructions. 1
  • Fulfill other tasks assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a driver in a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile environments.
  • Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of local context and familiarity with Rakhine State.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to support teamwork.
  • Sufficient proficiency in the local language, both written and verbal.

Educational Background:
A valid driving license is mandatory, and additional certifications related to vehicle maintenance or safety training are advantageous. Educational qualifications may vary, but a high school diploma or equivalent is typically preferred.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of driving experience, particularly in humanitarian settings. Experience in navigating complex environments and understanding local geography is essential. Previous roles that required a high level of responsibility and adherence to safety protocols will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in the local language is mandatory, with proficiency in English considered an asset. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively with team members and local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a fixed-term contract position until December 2026, with the possibility of extension based on funding and organizational needs. The role is based in Rakhine State, Myanmar, and may require travel within the region.
