The organization is dedicated to enhancing communication and advocacy functions within the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and the Resident Coordination Office (RCO).

Job Overview:

Interns will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO), contributing to various communication initiatives that promote the work of the United Nations in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. The internship is unpaid and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week for a duration of six months. Interns will assist in the design and implementation of communication campaigns, public information activities, and social media content development, thereby playing a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and outreach of the UN's initiatives in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the UNIC's communication efforts. These include assisting in the design and implementation of at least one UN communication or outreach campaign, contributing to the organization of at least three public information or communication activities, and supporting outreach and visibility efforts. Interns will also assist in drafting and developing a minimum of three social media campaigns, preparing multimedia content and posts for UNIC Mexico’s social media platforms. Additionally, they will help develop and schedule weekly social media content focusing on UN observances and priorities, produce regular news bulletins and media updates, and assist in the production or editing of audiovisual and graphic materials to support digital visibility and storytelling.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Relevant fields include social sciences, journalism, communications, audiovisual communications, social media management, marketing, advertising, and multimedia production. Applicants should also have a good working knowledge of standard office software applications, particularly MS Word, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as multimedia production tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva, or similar applications.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have completed or be in the process of completing a relevant degree program. This includes those pursuing or having completed a graduate degree or those in their final year of an undergraduate program. The educational background should ideally be in areas related to social sciences, communications, journalism, or multimedia production, which aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that demonstrates their capability in the fields of communications, social media, or public information. The internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience and apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is desirable, as it may enhance the intern's ability to engage with a broader range of UN communications and documentation.
