Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer Translator involves translating the Guidelines for Marriages and Divorces registration from English to Portuguese. This role is crucial as the translations will be used in reports shared with member states and development partners involved in the civil registration system. The work requires collaboration between two volunteers for each language, where one will focus on the translation and the other will validate the translated content. The selected volunteers will receive necessary materials and information to ensure the quality and accuracy of the translations, which are essential for effective communication and implementation of civil registration guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Translate the Guidelines for Marriages and Divorces registration from English to Portuguese, ensuring accuracy and clarity in the translation.
• Collaborate with another volunteer to validate the translated version, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement.
• Review and incorporate any necessary revisions based on validation feedback to enhance the quality of the final document.
• Ensure that the translations adhere to UNFPA's standards and guidelines for language and terminology.
• Communicate effectively with UNFPA representatives to clarify any doubts or seek additional information related to the translation task.
• Submit the final translated and validated documents within the agreed timeline.

Required Qualifications:

• Proficiency in both English and Portuguese, with a strong command of grammar, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions in both languages.
• Experience in translation, particularly in the context of legal or administrative documents, is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with UNFPA's mission and objectives, especially in relation to sexual and reproductive health, is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with peers.

Educational Background:
A background in languages, translation, linguistics, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications in translation or interpretation will be given priority. Knowledge of legal terminology related to marriage and divorce registration is beneficial.

Experience:
Previous experience in translation, particularly in the context of international organizations or NGOs, is preferred. Familiarity with civil registration systems and related documentation will be advantageous. Volunteers should demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of UNFPA.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in English and Portuguese. Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages relevant to UNFPA's work may be considered an asset.
