Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to the head of the sub-office and other UN officials and visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as well as excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and tact while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. In addition to driving, the Driver may also be required to assist with administrative tasks and provide support to operations and program staff as needed. This position is essential for ensuring the smooth functioning of the office and facilitating the movement of personnel and materials in a secure manner.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's primary responsibilities include providing reliable and secure driving services for authorized personnel, which may include government officials, UN representatives, and other visitors. The Driver is responsible for delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other items to various offices and establishments. They must meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and assist with visa and customs formalities when required. The Driver must ensure that all passengers wear seatbelts and adhere to safety regulations, taking immediate action in case of accidents. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate vehicle logs, including odometer readings, fuel purchases, and maintenance records. Daily vehicle maintenance checks are required to ensure the vehicle is in safe running condition, and the Driver must report any discrepancies or safety concerns to the supervisor. Additionally, the Driver will assist with administrative tasks such as filing and photocopying, and support coordination with other UN agencies and local authorities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have completed secondary education. A minimum of three years of relevant driving experience in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required, along with a safe driving record. Experience in administrative and logistical support services is desirable, as is familiarity with maintaining accurate vehicle and fuel logs. Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions. Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel, is also required.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. Candidates must also hold a valid driver's license.
Experience: The position requires at least three years of relevant experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Candidates should have a proven safe driving record and experience in administrative, logistical, and protocol support services. Experience in maintaining accurate vehicle and fuel logs is essential, as well as familiarity with government partners.
Languages: A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, candidates must have a working knowledge of Dari and Pashto. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable.
